Happy Birthday, Margie!

Robin · September 29, 2017 ·

Aloha, all!

Each year, my favorite niece, Margie (actually my only niece so I get to say that without anyone getting her nose bent out of shape!), has a birthday that I feel I need to mark with something that has to do with unicorns. Yes, unicorns continue to be a feature in her life even as she moves inexorably (but not this year or the next couple) towards the big 4-0. I was therefore quite thrilled when I found the perfect set with unicorns for this year's Birthday Card for Margie!

Most of the stamps that I used for this card are from the "Believe in Unicorns" stamp set from the stamp company, Newton's Nook. This is not the first stamp set I've bought from Newton's Nook, just the first I've posted here in my blog. But besides the stamps and dies, everything else about this card is from Stampin' Up!, the company whose products I represent (just no unicorns this catalog). The "happy birthday" at the bottom of the sentiment square is from Stampin' Up!'s stamp set, Teeny Tiny Wishes. And both the Newton's Nook and Stampin' Up! images were cut out using one of the squares in the Stampin' Up! Stitched Shapes Dies.

All of the cardstock used in this card is from Stampin' Up!, including the Thick Whisper White Cardstock card base, the Whisper White Cardstock on which everything was stamped, the Garden Green Cardstock that I used for the grassy hill, and the Bermuda Bay Cardstock that I used to mat the card front. The Ribbon is 3/8" Whisper White Classic Weave Ribbon.

I colored in the Unicorn and the Rainbow using something other than traditional rainbow colors – Bermuda Bay, Garden Green, and Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write Markers. The little bit of shadowing I did for the unicorn and clouds I made with Copic Markers, C0, C1, and C3.  I do have a nice collection of Copic Markers, and one of these days I've GOT to learn how to use them! But I don't think I did too badly with the shading for this card.

The most fun was using some Wink of Stella on the Unicorn and the Rainbow. I could not get a full on photo of the card AND show off the sparkle that Wink of Stella gives to the fun little critter. But here's a small section that I turned into the sun to get some sparkle.

This really was SOOO much fun! I can hardly wait to see what I come up with next year. Along with the card that I sent to Margie earlier in the week, I sent the stamp sets from this year as well as last year. I can't imagine when I'd ever use these sets except for Margie's birthday. And she's so awesome she deserves something new EVERY year.

Here are the Stampin' Up! products. If you'd like to know more about Newton's Nook, I'm sure you can find them with a quick Internet search!
