This month, my regular card-making class is going to make projects all of which are going to feature Stampin’ Up!’s new Alcohol Markers, Stampin’ Blends. I’ve been planning this class for some time and, fortunately, the colors that my class will be using are all in stock and available. Other colors are out of stock and won’t be available again until June. But I lucked out with this one!
The first project will be one that I shared with you earlier this week, using the You’re Inspiring Stamp Set. There will be one more card project using other stamps in this set. Today’s project is the second one, and is based on a fantastic card that my sister-in-law, Deb, who is also a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, sent me for my birthday.
As in the card from last Tuesday, the main colors for the flowers are the Daffodil Delight Light, Daffodil Delight Dark, and Pumpkin Pie Light Stampin’ Blends. Deb’s design made it easy for me to use matching cardstock colors – Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie Cardstock – for the card base and accents.
The stamp set that’s featured in this project is the Climbing Orchid Stamp Set. There are two basic designs for orchids in this set, as well as two sizes for each of the designs. For this card, I used one design in both large and smaller orchids, and two pieces of each set. The “lips” for the orchids are the same no matter which design of orchid you’d chose to use. I stamped the orchids using Pumpkin Pie Ink, and then colored them each petal in, first using the Daffodil Delight Light marker to fill the petal, followed by Daffodil Delight Dark to accent the base of each petal, and finally lines of Pumpkin Pie along the stamped lines in the petal. Finally I colored in the whole petal again using the Daffodil Delight Light marker to blend the colors together. For the orchid lips, I simply stamped the image using Pumpkin Pie Ink, with a Basic Black accent. The final step was to die-cut each of the pieces using the Orchid Builder Framelits die set. The Stamp Set and Framelits are bundles in the 2017-2018 Stampin’ Up! Catalog, for a 10% discount.
When it came to the leaves and the sentiments, though, I traveled to another stamp set – the Beautiful Bouquet Stamp Set. The main reason is that there is not a leaf stamp in the Climbing Orchid set that looks anything like the leaves in all of the orchids that are growing in our garden. The leaves are elongated, much like the leaves in the Beautiful Bouquet set. I stamped the leaves onto Old Olive Cardstock using Versamark Ink, then cut them with the leaf die from the Bouquet Bunch Framelits die set. The sentiment is from yet a third stamp set, Picture Perfect Birthday, a stamp set in the 2018 Occasions Catalog. Again, this stamp set and the coordinating framelits are bundles in the Stampin’ Up! Catalog for a 10% savings (love the savings).
This is the inside of the card (no, it’s not really that bright! , and it’s what makes it a Pop Up Shadow Box Card. The cardstock is scored in several places to allow it to open up into a 1/2 inch deep card inside, with an opening die cut to show yet another orchid adhered to the inside of the card. I added another sentiment to the layer made up of a design from the Bubbles and Fizz Designer Series Paper from the 2018 Sale-a-bration brochure. (Just a hint – if you buy the Climbing Orchid Bundle and one other small item, such as some adhesive, you can get that paper for FREE!)
Now I just need to prepare the materials and instructions for my class and I’ll be on to my next project! I’ll be busy this weekend!
