Aloha, all!
Here it is the first Friday of the new Stampin' Up! Catalog, and I'm still getting confused about what's current and what's not. It's actually a bit worse because I was making the projects for today and next Friday's Sketch Frenzy Friday challenges the week BEFORE the new – and current – Stampin' Up! catalog went live.
Usually when I get a list of items that are going to retire, I almost immediately retire most of what I have to a retirement box (well, boxes!). I leave out those items that I'm pretty sure I'll be using during the following weeks or even one or two stamps and paper sets that I particularly like and want to keep using until the very last minute. Once that's done, I usually promptly forget which of my currently available Stampin' Up! products are going to be in the new catalog and which are not.
That's what happened with today's project.
Yes, the Stamp Set, Embellished Events, from which that lovely cake comes is still current, as are all the colors and the Candy Dots. I just loved this card for the sketch that is today's Sketch Frenzy Friday sketch. I even uploaded it to the online Album where we park photos of our projects and I called it, "Done!"
Wrong! As you're reading this blog post, that lovely Daffodil Delight Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon has retired, and that beautifully polka-dotted paper from the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper set in the Everyday Occasions Catalog is no longer available as that catalog was finished as of last Saturday.
Rats! What to do. Well, the first thing was to do what I've been doing a lot of lately (and I reported it here this past Tuesday – same problem!) is using the wonderfully helpful product, Un Du® Adhesive Remover. Off came that Designer Series Paper layer with everything on top of it, leaving the Daffodil Delight Card Base and the Real Red Layer intact. Then I attacked the center medallion. As it was adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals it was going to come off pretty easily. But I didn't want to get any bends or creases in the paper, and a little Un Du worked beautifully. And onto the new project it would go!
To replace the stitched grosgrain ribbon, I used Daffodil Delight Seam Binding Ribbon. On a whim I also added some ribbon ends under the medallion. With that done, the other change I made was to put the four triangles on the upper part of the Coastal Cabana Designer Series Paper Stack layer. I made these little guys with the tip of the Triangle Punch. For the original card, I'd used the tip of the plain pennant in the Petite Pennants Builder Punch. I like the triangle tips better!
So that's my story of the day! This actually happened with last Tuesday's blog post, too, where I used a retired sprig of flowers from a Hostess set and had to completely redo the stamped layer to use something that would be current this week. Hopefully by now everything that's retired is gone from sight! But you can be sure I've been double-checking every part of every project since I made these two!
Here are the CURRENT products that I've mentioned for this project. All are available for purchase at my Stampin' Up! Store!
