Of my four brothers, only my two youngest brothers are still alive and kicking. Both of them are quite a bit younger than I am, and both live a long ways from Hawai’i – Maryland and Massachusetts. But I do get to see them occasionally, and I get to catch up with them a bit on social media. And I always think of them on their birthdays.
I haven’t always been really good about sending them birthday cards (boo!) but I’ve been trying to remember their birthdays well enough in advance that they’ll actually get the card on or before their birthday. I missed this birthday by a couple of days – one of the days because I forgot that Columbus Day is a government holiday, and there was no mail that day. Given the 4 days it takes mail to get to Massachusetts from Hawai’i, John will undoubtedly assume I forgot about his birthday again.
In designing the card for my brother who lives in the Boston area, I went immediately to the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper, which has lots of maritime designs that should be perfect for that area of the country. I spread out all the papers and my eye was immediately drawn to the Mossy Meadow-colored designs. For an accent, I had just finished working with some Gold Foil on another project (and put it away – I’m getting better at that!) and thought that would be just right. So I split to the two Mossy Meadow designs along a horizontal, using a soon-to-be-released Gold Shimmer Ribbon along the cut line. I had a birthday greeting in mind to stamp onto the oval I chose for the accent, but then I noticed one of my scraps of Gold Foil that I’d cut using the Word Wishes Dies. Sure enough, that set has the word, “Happy,” so there was some more gold to add!
Besides the new Gold Shimmer Ribbon, a new suite of products that will be released November 1st has a set of gorgeous Gold Glitter Enamel Dots, and I lined three of them up to accent the greeting on the oval shape.
So – the card will be late! But I hope that my brother likes it anyway. I had fun stamping it and putting it together for sure!
