Perfect Papers for My Tropical Life!

June 10, 2020 by Robin

Aloha, all!

You have to know by now that I love Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Papers. But I REALLY love papers that have a tropical feel to them, mostly because I live Hawai’i, and tropical is all around me. Stampin’ Up! did not disappoint in their new 2020-2021 Annual Catalog.

Whale of a Time Designer Series Paper

One of the new suites in the new Stampin’ Up! catalog is called, Whale of a Time. This suite includes a stamp set, a punch (of a whale – with lots of pieces!), an embossing folder, some ribbon, and gorgeous sequins. So far I have been pretty good about not letting myself buy the whole suite, though I’d love to show it all off for you. But I cannot resist the Designer Series Paper!

The whole front of this card is made up of Whale of a Time Designer Series Paper. That beautiful sea floor print on the front is from one sheet of the paper. And the mat behind it is from another print in the same set. Is this not a perfect design to feature the Calypso Coral color?!  The only thing that’s not part of the design on the front sheet is that little fish swimming across. I fussy cut that little critter from a scrap of the other side of the Calypso Coral paper. While there were some coral colored fish “swimming” on the paper, I liked the Bumblebee color of this little gal, so she’s the one who won out for this card.

And Then There’s the Ribbon

I cannot believe that I almost skipped over this ribbon when placing my first order from the new catalog. My eyes looked right past it in when I was going through the catalog as I couldn’t compute where I would use it. Once I put this paper in my shopping cart, though, my first thought was, “what ribbon will go with it?” It was then that the Pool Party 3/8″ Sheer Ribbon reached out and snagged my attention. And doesn’t it go with this scene beautifully? It just accents the water scene perfectly.

Why Not Buy the Whole Suite?

I’m already asking myself why I didn’t order the whole suite right off the bat. And then I answer the same way I answered in my last blog post. I’m in a tiny space, and (yes I know it’s only June but) the Fall and Winter Holidays are coming! So I’m saving space to unpack the holiday stamp sets I already have AND buy new holiday sets later this summer! With just the paper and ribbon (and I did buy the Seabed 3D embossing folder which you’ll see later this month), I’ve found I can make some gorgeous cards. And besides, I’m saving $$$ in the process!

Whatever you’re making and however you decide to buy things from Stampin’ Up!’s newest catalog, have a great time doing it!
