Aloha, all!
Yes, I’ve been gone for most of the month of May. But today starts a RASH of blog posts as we get ready for the newest Stampin’ Up! catalog’s release next week – June 3rd!
It’s Time for Island Hopping
But for today, it’s time for the monthly Island Hopping with Cheryl Hamilton!
Our theme for this month is sharing some floral elements using a bit of our older/current products and adding in something that will be new as of June 3rd.
First the New!
I have to tell you that I’m more excited by the new products that I’m going to be sharing a lot with you starting next week. For this project, I’m sharing both parts of what has already become my favorite bundle from the upcoming Stampin’ Up! 2020-2021 Annual Catalog. This is the Lovely You Bundle, made up of the brand new Lovely You Stamp Set and a fabulous punch, the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.
You can see both of these products in the sentiment element in the middle of the card. Each of the sentiments in the Lovely You Stamp Set has a bit of sans serif text with one or two lovely script words. There are two sentiments that are single words, and both are just script. But they all fit into one of the shapes in the Pick a Punch. It’s “Pick” a punch for three reasons.
- First, there are two different labels to choose from – in the same punch!
- Second, for each of the two label designs, there are 3 labels widths from which to choose – 1/2″, 3-4″, and 1″.
- Third, the label can be any length you choose!
For this card’s label, I chose the label that has a small rounded end to it. I punched the sentiment at 3/4″ wide and the label’s mat at 1″ wide. In my next newsletter (this coming weekend) I will publish a tip for making the mat layers exactly the right length to fit the stamped layer.
Now for the Old
Old doesn’t necessarily mean retired. But in the case of the Perennial Birthday Stamp Set, and the Best Dressed Designer Series Paper, old = retiring. Rats! I love the sentiments in this stamp set. But today I’m sharing one of the flowers in the set.
Ever since the Best Dressed Designer Series Paper (DSP) was released as part of the 2020 January – June Mini Catalog, I’ve thought that the flowers in this stamp set were meant to go with the DSP set. So I’ve used it, not only with the designs that really match the design in the stamped flower, but with all of the floral designs in the set. For some reason, even with the larger flowers, this stamp seems to complement their design just beautifully!
And the Not-so-old
The final two elements in this card are both fairly recent and will be around with us for the next 11 months that the new annual catalog will be with us – the Old Olive Ribbon from the Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack, and the Sweetly Stitched die set that I used to die-cut the large label behind the sentiment layers. I’ve noticed that a lot of card-makers are using ribbon wrapped back and forth behind a layer as a new way to add ribbon to a card. I kind of like that and included that here. I love tying bows, but not everyone does. So this is a great way to use ribbon without having to tie a bow.
And On With the Hop!
I hope you enjoyed my floral take on sharing the old with the new. Now I hope you’ll hop on over to Cheryl Hamilton’s blog post to see what my Maui neighbor has created. As I write this, I haven’t yet seen it. But I’m sue it will be well worth seeing!
Happy stitching!

Ok. You’ve totally sold me on that bundle!! I LOVE the font in your sentiment and I didn’t realize that punch did so much! And did I mention? Your card is beautiful!
The punch is amazingly versatile; well worth every penny! It’s especially nice with the sentiments in the stamp set.
