Aloha, all!
I have been SOOO late getting my Christmas cards out (am I the only one???). Yesterday I put all the East Coast USA cards in the mail – they should make it. Today, all the West Coast cards go in the mail (assuming I get off my duff after my first cup of coffee in the morning!). Yes, there are some in betweens, but some went with the East Coast and some will go with the West Coast. And, I hesitate to say, some will not go out until Wednesday. That’s cutting it close for real west coast such as California and Washington (no Oregon cards this year).
Of course, I’ve found myself short a few cards, and I was so glad to get an idea for one from this week’s SUO Challenges Blog – my favorite holiday image! Well, of course, being here in Hawaii, I had to grab something from the Beachy Little Christmas Stamp Set from the Stampin’ Up! 2017 Holiday Catalog!
Is this not the epitome of a Hawaiian Christmas Card?! Coconut palm trees at the shore. And that’s where they grow best. Sand and Salt Water are coconut palms’ friends!
As this is a “quick and dirty” type of card, I didn’t have much time to get the whole thing put together. My first thought was to use one of the stamp sets from the upcoming Occasions Catalog to make the sand and water. But, the way I was doing it, even the water was a bit suspect (cue an intro to the Waterfront Stamp Set). OK, so the water, using some darkist Pool Party, worked OK. But after that, I wondered where I was going to get the sand. I looked around my craft room and desperation set in. Aha! I still had (have) some Creamy Caramel ink lying around – including an old Stampin’ Write Marker. Wonderful! I had sand!!!
From there it was a cinch to finish the card, with a sentiment from the Beachy Little Christmas set.
While this is a one-time Stampin’ Up! Stamp Set (retires at the end of the Holiday Catalog period on January 2nd), it really goes well with the theme I put on my Christmas Card Envelopes every year. I order a return address label from an online printer that has a decorated Palm Tree on it, and I add an online decorated tree to my address labels. So this goes with the theme!
Speaking of themes – don’t forget that this challenge at SUO Challenges is for EVERYONE to enter. You don’t have to be a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator – just enjoy Stampin’ Up! products. Just use Stampin’ Up! products only in your project and enter it into the challenge!
Have fun with your ideas for this challenge!
