Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 14, 2020 by Robin

Aloha, all!

Do you ever make a project and just love it and then realize there’s a BIG mistake in it and you almost toss it in the trash? This is one of those cards.

Making Cards Using Quilters’ Designs

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a quilt pattern on a card. But I used to do them all the time. What made me try it again was a fairly large quilt block I saw last month. Unfortunately, it was too large to replicate on a card without making teeny, tiny squares. Then someone else made something similar – this pattern! – and off I went with it!

The printed triangles are from the From My Heart Specialty Designer Series Paper set. I also added in a few Real Red and Flirty Flamingo cardstock pieces as accents. All started as 1″ squares, cut on the diagonal.

Here is the pattern the way I’d sketched it out. There are 20 twenty triangles. For this heart, I used eight different patterns from the Designer Paper and one square each of the two cardstock colors. You’ll see each pattern/color 3, 2, or 1 times in this design.

So What Went Wrong?

This is where I got crossed up. One of those sets of two triangles is BACKWARDS! Or is that upside-down. Whatever, it’s not right. Rarely do I say there’s a mistake in a card – they’re all “design modifications.” On the other hand, quilting is a bit more of an exact science than is paper crafting. There are patterns in quilting! But – despite the error – here is my Valentine Quilt Card. When I finally looked at the card again, I realized that most people who are NOT quilters will look at the card and see the whole of it, which is pretty nice. The person who will get this card in the mail (and, yes, I mailed it out early) will smile when she sees it. She won’t start picking it apart.

Message for us all: Enjoy what we make and those who get our cards will enjoy them just as much!

Happy Valentine’s Day – and Happy Stamping!

I have been stamping and paper crafting for over 30 years, and have been an Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator for 14 years.

My favorite part of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator is teaching others to enjoy crafting themselves. Not only do I conduct classes in person, I write tutorials for teaching anyone who has internet access. No matter if you're in my area in The Villages in Florida or anywhere else in the world, let me know if there's something you'd like to learn! Read More…

I know – I didn’t see it until I went to make the sketch, long after I’d sent it to you. I’m glad you enjoy it! See you soon!!
