Happy Forest Friends Paper Makes a Card Front

June 1, 2022 by Robin

Hi, There, Stampers!

Today I’m back with another card made with strips of paper. In my last post I used six different prints from the paper set I used. This time, though, I’m just using a piece of one print to create the whole card-front background. The reason is that this paper has designs that create a scene all by themselves.

Special Sheets in the Happy Forest Friends Designer Series Paper (DSP)

This paper set is displayed online (Stampinup.com) in much the same way as all the other DSP sets. The side that the designer deems to be the main side is shown in larger samples than those designs that are on the “back” of the paper. But in Happy Forest Friends, there is even a different twist. One of the sheets is designed in such a way that you can create entire card fronts from it.

The picture on the right shows how I cut six 4″ x 5-1/4″ pieces out of one of these sheets (there are 2 of each design in each pack of DSP). For today’s card, I used the piece in the upper left corner, with the owl and bird. I love the scene with the trees and mountains and even a fun flower up near the top.

Developing the Layout

While I love these six little scenes, I seem to be constitutionally incapable of just putting one of the design on a card front. If it was a piece of fabric, I’d do some fun stuffed quilting to make it “mine.” It was therefore serendipitous that I was looking for something to make with strips this week. So strips it was!

All I had to do was to trim a bit on the vertical edges of the piece I’d cut and then cut it into three strips. Again, I wanted something a bit different from just gluing the strips onto the card base. I had to look no further than this same set of paper. If you look at the monochrome design in the picture up on the left, that’s the color I chose for the background. I know that it might not look exactly like the main picture at the beginning of this article, but it is. It’s a matter of how big the photographs are.

The Final Touches

Of course I needed something to jazz up the finished product. You might recognize the Old Olive Twill Ribbon from the card in my last “strips” article. It really is a handy ribbon to have around – Old Olive coordinates with so many products in Stampin’ Up!’s catalog! And, to add a sentiment to the front of the card, I went to my go-to sentiment set, Go To Greetings, to find the “Just a Note” stamp. I stamped it on Basic White Cardstock and then die cut it with one of the tags from the Tailor Made Tags die set. I like the way that the tag angles down a bit on the card, so I made sure it stayed that way by adding some Mini Glue Dots to keep it in place.

This card was a lot of fun – and easy! Not only that, I’ve already sent it out to a friend. It made me smile and I’m sure it will make here smile when she gets it.
