Cheerful Basket – CASEing the Catalog!

May 15, 2022 by Robin

Hi, there!

Last week I needed something to get me going on card-making session. I dutifully pulled a brand new, unused, stamp set from my stash and then sat and looked at it. The stamp set is Cheerful Basket, and all I could see in my mind’s eye were the set’s samples from the new Stampin’ Up! 2022-23 Annual Catalog – shown in the picture above. OK, there’s nothing wrong with that. CASEing (Copy And Share with Everyone) the catalog is a great way to start your creative juices flowing. But I wanted something different this time. My “aha” moment came when I started leafing through the other pages in the catalog and quickly saw another card that I thought the Cheerful Basket might fit. Read on!

Apples and Cherries – A Like Color Combo

On page 19 of the catalog, a card with the same color combo as I imagined an apple image might have caught my eye. The stamp set on that page is Sweetest Cherries, and the colors were red and green. Hmmm. Why not put a basket of apples on that layout? So I did.

The way I approach CASEing a project is to look at the design I’ve picked, look at what I have to work with, and then plan my attack. If I have everything in the original project, I may end up making a really close copy. In this case, I had the colors, but not the stamp set. So I kept the colors.

The red is Flirty Flamingo and the green is Granny Apple Green. I have to tell you that I’ve never thought of Flirty Flamingo as a red, more as a dark pink. But next to that Granny Apple Green, it sure looks red to me!

I stamped and colored the basket using Crumb Cake Ink. For all of the coloring, I used Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. My only work at trying to shade anything was in the basket, where I used the dark marker over on the left to enhance the shading that is included in the stamped image.

Adding Some Texture

In the original card the designer used one of the stamps in the Cherries stamp set to create some background texture. For my card, I stamped the apple image onto the background layer of Daffodil Delight Cardstock using Daffodil Delight Ink. Then I added some more texture by using the Brick and Mortar Embossing Folder on the Basic White Layer. Before I did that, though, I stamped the sentiment using Pool Party Ink, the same color in which the sample’s sentiment was stamped.

There Will Be More!

Once I finished with this project, I decided to continue leafing through the catalog to see if there were any more cards I could CASE using the Cheerful Basket Stamp Set. I’m sure you won’t be surprised to learn that there are more. Look for these projects later this week!

Happy Stamping – and don’t forget to CASE projects if you’re stuck on ideas!
