Another Tower Card for a Happy Birthday!

February 9, 2020 by Robin

Aloha, all!

Yesterday I shared a picture of a project using what I’m called the “Small Tower Fun Fold.” That project was a Valentine’s Day card. Today I’m sharing another card made using the same fold design with different colors and papers.

A Special Card for My Sister-in-Law’s Birthday!

One of my sisters-in-law is a card designer and teacher, as am I. So every year I try to see if I can’t come up with a new design for her birthday card. Because I’d just recently figured out this design for myself, I made a card for her using the Small Tower Fun Fold Design.

What’s Different About This Card?

The obvious changes from yesterday’s card are that this is a Birthday Card and yesterday’s was a Valentine Card. And everything else changed, too. So? SO – there’s a brand new die in this card. It’s from the Birthday Die set that’s part of the Spring 2020 release of dies that coordinate with Sale-a-Bration and Mini Catalog stamps. For this card, I just used the Birthday Cake die. The set also includes dies for the two sets of flowers on the cake as well as a more elaborate cake stand. This card already has a lot of interest to it. So it didn’t seem necessary to get too elaborate by using layered flower.

Now let’s go on to the rest of the card. How did I choose my papers and colors. Once I knew I was going to use the cake design, I looked for Designer Series Paper with a pretty floral design. The Bird Ballad set of papers jumped right out at me! And there were my colors – Pool Party for a blue and Petal Pink for a pink. Perfect!

For the coloring, I used Stampin’ Blends, including Petal Pink, Pool Party and Old Olive. I still can’t believe how good my coloring looks with these wonderful Alcohol Markers. Thanks, Stampin’ Up! for making sure we have alcohol markers in our collection!

Then I needed to add a sentiment and some embellishments. It was impossible to resist using the new Petal Pink ribbon with the gold metallic edge. And of course I couldn’t have a plain shape for my sentiment. So I went right to the Holiday Catalog carryover die set, Ornate Frames. The sentiment itself is from the current Mini Catalog stamp set, Peaceful Moments. And my card was complete!

Finding a Place for Writing

I did mention this yesterday. But today I actually have a photo to show you where I stashed a spot for writing – on the back! I added a piece of Whisper White Cardstock in between the back “levels” of the tower. And, as a finishing touch, I rescued a little piece of the Designer Series Paper and I added it to the bottom.
