An Un-Valentine’s Day Quilted Card!

February 15, 2020 by Robin

Aloha, all!

Yesterday I wished you all a Happy Valentine’s Day with a card made using a quilt-style pattern. There are two points that I’d like to share with you today. The first is that I finally made that quilted heart pattern without a mistake (yay!). And the other is that hearts are not just for Valentine’s Day!

Hearts Can Be Any Color!

As I made my quilt pattern Valentine card, I wondered if I could use the heart quilt design in a different kind of card. Of course I could, especially when I have the new Peaceful Moments Stamp Set. The sentiment, “Thinking of you with all my heart,” from that set is perfect for a heart-shaped design!

And even more perfect is the Garden Lane Designer Series Paper set. There are so many beautiful designs in this set that remind me of quilt fabric displays in a fabric store. So off I set to create my quilt with them.

One difference with this card is that I placed the heart on its own layer rather than directly onto the card base. With the 1″ high triangles, the heart is 4″ high, and the layer is 4″ by 5-1/4″. To separate it from the 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card base, I inserted a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ layer of Mint Macaron cardstock.

I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock that I die cut using the Painted Labels dies. Then, since I had all those layers, I added some Mint Macaron 1/4″ Textile Ribbon. I slipped it through slits I’d punched in the die-cut  using the slit section of the Label Me Fancy Punch.

The best part of this card is that I thought to texturize the card-front layers before adhering them to the card base. That Tufted Embossing Folder was absolutely perfect for this!

And there are more “Heart” occasions, too!

Imagine all the occasions on which you could use a quilted heart pattern! For example, there are weddings, showers, anniversaries, just thinking fondly about someone. And that’s what today’s card does. I hope you have fun with it!
