Aloha, all!
If you are anything like me, when I opened the new Sale-a-bration brochure and saw the Penguin Playmates paper set, my first reaction was, “I’m not ready for Christmas yet – it’s not even winter!” Sure, penguins are fun all year long. But this paper has polar bears and Christmas trees and snowmen and wool scarves and hats! It’s still summer, guys!!!
But then I looked at the “back” side of all those papers. Oh, those I can use right now.
All Those non-Winter/Christmas Colors!
When I started looking at the not-necessarily-winter/Christmas prints is when I focused on the colors in this paper set. And the first color that I focused on is my favorite new Stampin’ Up! In Color, Fresh Freesia. I’d never thought of pairing it with Just Jade or Misty Moonlight, or Soft Sea Foam. But there was that gorgeous striped paper. OK, I just had to have that paper.
It’s Time for Island Hopping!
And I bought it just in time for this month’s edition of my Island Hopping Blog Hop with my demonstrator friend from the island just across the channel from me, Cheryl Hamilton, of the island of Maui. Cheryl and I had decided that our focus this month would be on Sale-a-bration, and the Penguin Playmates paper set arrived at my doorstep just in time!
My First Project with Penguin Playmates – Fresh Freesia Is The Star!
As most of you who have followed me for any length of time know, my favorite kind of card to make is something with lots of layers. And you must also know that I have a ton of layer sketches lying around in nooks and crannies everywhere, digital and otherwise. So I didn’t have to look far for a layout that shows off at least three of the designs in the Penguin Playmates paper set.
After shifting the papers in this set all around, I finally decided on a Fresh Freesia focus for today’s project. The background print does have a print that, by itself, might look pretty wintery. But pair it with other all-season prints, and the wintery part fades into the background. Well, that’s where this print actually is. So maybe that’s appropriate. The Freesia color is also in the other two prints. So it was pretty easy to pick up some Freesia Cardstock.
The final piece of the Fresh Freesia show is the Fresh Freesia Open Weave Ribbon. This is one year when I’m totally in love with the ribbon that Stampin’ Up! has chosen to go with their new In Colors. I’m definitely going to be going through several rolls of this ribbon in all the colors just for my own projects!
And That Sentiment!
During this iteration of the 2021 Sale-a-bration, there is a fantastic stamp set that can be earned FOR FREE if a Stampin’ Up! order reaches $300. OK, I’m not sure that “fantastic” is exactly the correct word for the set. After all, it’s a sentiment-only stamp set, and I’m sure you’ve seen more than your share of them. But this stamp set has sentiments suggested by Stampin’ Up! demonstrators. And, if there has ever been a stamp set that I’m keeping FOREVER! for just one stamp, this is it. And that stamp is on this card. I cannot begin to tell you the number of birthdays that have snuck up on me and cards did not get in the mail on time. This is going to be used again and again and again in my little corner of the world.
The Paper Set is FREE!
