When I went to Portland last November for the Stampin’ Up! On Stage event, I also met with a group of online Stampin’ Up! demonstrators the evening before for a fun pot luck dinner and crafting session. Each of the 6 of us brought supplies to make a card. Our hostess, Karenlee, had a dynamite fun-fold that I’ve made several times since.
The Designer Series Paper Rules!
The main structure of the card is made with Designer Series Paper. It’s one of those folds where both sides of the paper make an appearance. So it’s important to have two sides that provide a pleasant coordination. For this card, I used a sheet from the Tropical Oasis set of papers. Of course, I then went with the Timeless Tropical Stamp Set and Die Bundle for my stamped and die-cut elements.
As you open the card, this is what you see in the two folded sections. More of the flower on the right begins to emerge, and you begin to see that there is something hidden behind the front flap.
Then, as you open the card fully, you see the full flower and the coordinating palm tree under the first flap.
As you complete opening the card, there is a space on a medium die-cut oval for writing a short note and signing the card.
A Fun Die-cutting Technique
Karenlee encouraged us to create the front die-cut and stamped sentiment and floral element as she designed it. That meant that we had to stamp the flower AND the sentiment on one piece of cardstock. Then we used the Stitched Oval die to cut up until we almost got to the flower. Then we turned the cardstock around and die-cut using the floral die until we got up to the oval section we’d already cut. I still don’t have that technique quite perfected. But I’m working on it!
Some Quick Measurements
To make this card, you will need an 11-7/8″ x 5-3/8″ piece of Designer Series Paper. To create the folds, score at 1-3/4″, 4-3/4″ and 7-3/4″. With the side that you want as the “inside” of the card facing up, fold Mountain, Valley, Mountain. Use adhesive of your choice to glue the back sides of the middle folded area together. Decorate the card as you wish and then mount it onto a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of coordinating cardstock.
Have fun with this fold – and Happy Stamping no matter what you work on!
