Aloha, all!
One of my favorite activities every week happens every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday when I spend an hour at a local gym, Aloha Fitness, one of whose owners is my friend, Tunya. Tunya is also my personal trainer, and I owe my strength and good mobility to her efforts to keep me feeling a LOT younger than I am.
Besides being a personal trainer, Tunya is and has competed as a weight lifter. So when I saw that her birthday was coming up this year, I wracked my feeble brain to try to come up with an idea that would be special just for her.
I posted this on a Stampin’ Up! lovers Facebook page yesterday, and the first comment was, “I think you nailed it!” Yes!!! I was pretty sure that everyone who saw this card would recognize the barbells on this card, even if they weren’t black or silver.
When I got the idea for a barbell, I thought I’d cut out different colors of cardstock and different sizes for the weights at either end. But when I started going through my Designer Series Paper, I came across this paper in the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper, and that was all she wrote. I just clipped three of the stripes and, bingo! I had weights.
Yes, I did look through Pinterest to see if there was anything I could use for this card. But all the weight lifting cards were dark, masculine colors, and they all had weird looking muscle-bound men acting all macho. Nope, not happening. Tunya is definitely someone for whom I’d make a feminine card. So, once I got the barbell out of the way, I looked for ways to fluff the card up a bit. So I used the same sheet of paper and cut the top and bottom borders using the Delicate Lace Dies.
For the background layer on which to mount the papers, I used a piece of Blushing Bride Cardstock, matted with a piece of Old Olive Cardstock, all on a base of Thick Whisper White Cardstock. I stamped the sentiment – from the Perennial Birthday Stamp Set – onto the Bride cardstock, mounted a small strip of Basic Black Cardstock up above it and used a ruler and Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to draw lines between the two.
Finally, I had to add a bit of embellishment, and found some coordinating Coastal Cabana-colored dots in the Glitter Enamel Dots set.
Done, and Tunya got the card yesterday morning when I showed up for my Saturday workout!
Here are the products that I used for this card. Click on any of the icons to learn more about them and even buy them while you’re there in my Stampin’ Up! store!
Happy stamping!
