As I mentioned in my last post, my focus for this week is on making birthday cards. I looked at my birthday list, and found at least a dozen birthdays for which I’d really like to send a birthday card in the next couple of months. To make sure nothing happens that keeps me from getting these cards sent out, I’m making AND addressing them all this week. Then I’ll take some of them with me when I go on my looooong trip at the end of the month to make sure they’re sent out in plenty of time to be ON time.
As I mentioned before, I started out to make this card with a blank slate. I had no idea what I was going to use to make it. I’d decided just to look around my crafting area to see what grabbed me. Instead, I took a break and checked out some messages on one of my favorite Stampin’ Up! demonstrator websites and found a challenge. Love challenges! This one was to use the new FREE Sale-a-Bration Country Floral Embossing Folder. Wow! And I’d just received that one in my latest Stampin’ Up! shipment. Not only that, I’d recently seen another online article that demonstrated how to ink up the inside of the embossing folder to make a two-toned card front.
I was off and running with this one. For the card front, I cut out a piece of Blushing Bride Cardstock and inked up the inside of the embossing folder with Blushing Bride Ink. “Inking Up” means tapping the whole stamp pad all over the inside section of the folder with the floral designs recessed away from the surface. On my first try, I tried a suggestion from another demonstrator to not only tap the stamp pad, but also rub it across the surface. Wrong! Puddles of ink formed, resulting in the edges of the flowers not being very clear at all. I did not like that look at all. On the left is the image after I’d rubbed the stamp pad across the folder. On the right is one of the images from the above card. Big difference!
To accent the Blushing Bride color of the layer, I chose Pear Pizzazz Cardstock and the Pear Pizzazz 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon. The sentiment is from the Amazing Life Stamp Set, which is the set I’ve been using for the last week or so. I really do like that set and hope that it continues on from Stampin’ Up!’s Occasions Catalog into the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the birthday card bash this week – and hope perhaps it will inspire you to get stuff out and make cards yourself! If you need supplies, I can help with that!
