Earlier this month, I entered a challenge to add my own colors to one of Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Papers to show how they can be changed to make our own unique project. I had just finished a project using the Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper set, which includes designs that are just white and one color. While the striped and checkered designs worked for me, I had a hard time really enjoying the several lightly-printed Garden Green or Real Red monochrome designs.
Well this challenge fixed that! Here’s a card I made using one of the Garden Green Designs just by itself.
Adding some gold accents did make it a little more elegant – and I guess I do like the look. But wait until you see the colored in card!
I just love the way the holiday-themed greenery shows up so much better with some color! I used Real Red, Garden Green, Old Olive, Pear Pizzazz, and Mossy Meadow colors, adding the color to the paper using Blender Pens and Classic Stampin’ Pads.
Other than the coloring of the paper, the two cards are absolutely identical – I even carefully cut the papers so that the same designs were in the same places!
For the sentiment, I used some Mossy Meadow Cardstock that I die-cut using one of the dies from the Beautiful Boughs Dies. First I embossed the sentiment using Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Then I pulled a piece of Gold Metallic-Edge Ribbon through the slits on either end of the die-cut label, wrapping it around to the back of the top layers of the card. I added a gold star from the Faceted Stars part of the Most Wonderful Time Product Medley. I’ll be using those stars on LOTS of things this season!
I hope you liked this idea of coloring Designer Series Papers. There are amazing ideas about how to do this all around the Internet. If you find something that you really like, do let me know. I’d love to feature it on my blog here!
