Hau’oli Makahiki Hou!
That’s the greeting today here in Hawai’i. “Happy New Year” works just as well, and especially well in a year I believe we’re all hoping will be better than 2020.
Fun With a New Stamp Set!
I really do wish that everyone could have had access to this wonderful 2021 Sale-a-bration Stamp Set to make their New Year’s cards. I’m sure that there are hundreds of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators all over the world that are using at least the top image in their cards this week. Both of the critters on this card are in the upcoming stamp set, Delightful Donkeys. Those of us who attended Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage@Home event in November were even able to order it before the general demonstrator populations was. It went on my list the day it became available. Next week I’ll share another card that features all three of the donkeys in the stamp set. So much fun!
And Fun With a Square Card!
Not only is this a square card, it’s one that’s cut on a diagonal on the front. This square card is a bit bigger than the card I shared with you last month. But I didn’t want to squeeze these cuties into a smaller card. I wanted to show off the donkey kicking 2020 all askew and give the same amount of space to the donkey smiling sweetly welcoming 2021. So my square kept getting bigger and bigger until I found the 5-1/2″ square shape that I wanted.
To make the diagonal on a standard sized card, I could have cut a 12″ x 5-1/2″ strip from a 12″ square piece of cardstock and scored every 4″ to make a 4″ x 5-1/2″ card. But no way I could do this for a 5-1/2″ square card. Instead, I cut a 5-1/2″ x 12″ strip, then cut the strip to make a 5-1/2″ square layer. I scored the 6-1/2″ sides of the left over 5-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ piece at 1/2″. Then I cut a diagonal from where the score line met the top edge at the left down to the point where the score line met the bottom edge at the right. I folded the pieces on the score line and adhered the 1/2″ edge to the back of the original 5-1/2″ square.
Where Did I Find Those Words?
In looking at a list of stamp set words that I have, courtesy of a sister demonstrator, I found the word, “Sorry,” in the phrase, “I’m Sorry,” in another new stamp set available during Sale-a-bration. The words, “Hooray For,” precede the word, “You,” in yet another new stamp set. This one has been available in a special bundle for the last month and is called, “Quite Curvy.” I stamped the words using Night of Navy Ink.
And The Rest of the Card?
The donkeys are cavorting/sitting on some beautifully colored circle shapes that are on one of the sheets of Designer Series Paper set that will be in the 2021 Sale-a-bration Brochure. The top circle is how I got the idea to use Night of Navy Ink for the words. I cut those, as well as the donkeys and the numbers, using my Brother Scan ‘n Cut machine. It was a gift from my husband last Christmas and it’s been a delight with all the work I’ve been doing at home during the pandemic!
The colored cardstock on the front of the card is Rococo Rose Cardstock that I texturized with the Subtle Embossing Folder. I didn’t like all the flat space in between the images on the card front, and the Subtle folder provides some texture without shouting out a specific design. Love it!
I colored the donkeys using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. The main colors on the donkeys are both the Dark and Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends. For the snouts of both donkeys I used some Ivory Blends color. And for the donkey welcoming 2021, I added a bit of Rococo Rose Light Stampin’ Blends to accent her smile by matching the background color a bit.
The Bottom Line
My message today is, “Happy New Year,” on many accounts. First, I’m hoping for a 2021 that is better than 2020. It wouldn’t have to do much to meet that criterion. Second, I hope that you realize that we’re just days away from the January 5th launch of both the 2021 Sale-a-bration Brochure AND the 2021 January – June Mini Catalog. Both of those are filled with fantastic products, and I can hardly wait to show them all off to you!
Happy Stamping in 2021!
