You Picked Some Nice Colors!

February 17, 2014 by Robin

Aloha, all!

Last week I posted a photo that I'd taken that morning of an orchid that was just opening in our garden outside my craft room window.  I couldn't quite decide what colors to use to make a card featuring the photo I'd taken, and I asked you to help me out with some suggestions for coordinating colors.

FlowerCard

The two most common colors suggested were Raspberry Ripple and Gumball Green.  I certainly hadn't considered Gumball Green when I was first contemplating the photo, but when I put a piece of Gumball Green cardstock next to the photo, those leaves popped right out!  While Raspberry Ripple had been in my thoughts, I was glad to have some confirmation that this might be the color to choose.

It was the third color that was really interesting as I tried them all out.  I ended up using So Saffron as my "yellow" accent, but I certainly could see how Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie or Daffodil Delight could have worked to bring out the color in the middle of the orchid's three petals.

Other colors that were suggested were Rich Razzleberry, Perfect Plum, Cherry Cobbler, Real Red sponged with Cherry Cobbler, Strawberry Slush, and Primrose Petals.  The greens suggested besides Gumball Green were Always Artichoke and Old Olive.  There were even some suggestions to pick up the color of the palm tree on which the orchid is growing.  Those were Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand.

I can just see this orchid in so many layouts with all those various colors!  Isn't it fun to see what Stampin' Up!'s Colors can do?

It really does help to have a full collection of Stampin' Up! cardstock in all their colors!  And it is so inexpensive to do that.  All you have to do is buy one each of the color family sampler packs and you'll have 2 or 4 sheets of 8-1/2" x 11" cardstock in every color.  At just $6.95 each, it's a realy bargain!  Here are the stock numbers for each of the 6 sets:

  • 2012-2014 In Color  126838 (4 sheets each of 5 colors)
  • 2013-2015 In Color  131200 (4 sheets each of 5 colors)
  • Brights Collection  131190 (2 sheets each of 10 colors)
  • Neutrals Collection  131191 (2 sheets each of 10 colors)
  • Subtles Collection 131185 (2 sheets each of 10 colors)
  • Regals Collection 130029 (2 sheets each of 10 colors)
