Tic, Tac, Toe – CASE!

I have delightfully managed to have a whole weekend with nothing to do except play in my Craft Room. Well, I’ve taken a break from that a few times to play computer games. But it’s so much more fun to continue going through stamp sets I haven’t used in a while (or ever?!) and finding some online challenges that will give me some ideas that help me get out of my comfort zone and add some new projects to my stash of greeting cards.

For today’s project, I chose a new-to-me challenge called Tic Tac Toe. I’ve seen it around a lot, but have never taken the time to try it out myself. Here’s the challenge grid from which we are to pick any row, column, or diagonal and make a card featuring the items in that set of three.

I chose the diagonal from lower left to upper right: layers, punch, and stripes. As I looked over my punches, I realized that I’d not used my Daisy Punch since last summer when the Stampin’ Up! 2017-2018 Catalog first came out. So out came the Daisy Punch and the coordinating Daisy Delight Stamp Set, and Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper.

OK. At that point, the punch was easy and the stripes were easy as there are 3 designs in the paper set that have stripes as their base. But figuring out the layers, given that I only have some of the sheets of paper left in my stash, was giving me a bit of trouble. So I did what I often do and went to the Stampin’ Up! Catalog to see how they may have used some of the Designer Series Paper sheets and coordinating cardstock in layers. Darned if my eyes didn’t immediately spot a card that was just made for this challenge! So why not CASE (Copy and Share with Everyone) that card?

So CASE a card for this challenge is what I did.

For the bottom layer for this card, I did something that I rarely do, which is to cut a piece of Designer Series Paper the same size as the card base. I can’t think of any card I’ve made in recent memory (and even further back) where I did this. For one thing, I’ve found it really hard to get that layer exactly the same size as the card that I’ve cut, and that can lead to frustrations, as well as too many pieces of paper in the waste basket. But I took a deep breath and did it. It worked! And, no it wouldn’t have been easy to trim at the edges as I had to wrap that ribbon around it before I adhered the whole card front to the base.

If you’d like to see the original of this card, it’s on page 126 of the 2017-2018 Stampin’ Up! Catalog. That catalog is still an active catalog, and will be until the end of next month (May 2018). Even if this punch and stamp set are continued into the next Stampin’ Up! Catalog, the bundle – giving you a 10% discount – will not continue. So now’s the time to buy this bundle if  you’ve been thinking about it!

Here’s a breakout of the products I used in this card, including the punch and stamp set individually as well as the available bundle. The only thing that’s not really obvious is that Baker’s Twine. There is a Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine in the catalog, and that’s what was likely used in the catalog card. But I do not have that in my stash. What you see here is Whisper White Solid Baker’s Twine that I colored with the Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker. Love those markers and they WILL be available once the new catalogo is published, or shortly after.
