Beginning today and going through the end of July, I’m going to be featuring Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Papers as the main element in my greeting cards. The reason is that, for the entire month, most of Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Papers are on sale at 15% off the catalog price. I’m hoping to show you that these papers can carry a whole card design all by themselves. So, even at full price, they’re worth having in your crafting stash.
Simple Strips and Banners Pick a Punch
All three of today’s cards feature 3/4″ strips of 3 patterns from their featured Designer Papers. Going from left to right, I cut the papers at 3-7/8″, 3-1/4″, 2-5/8″, and 2″. I used the Banners Pick a Punch to punch a notch in the bottom end of each of the strips. Then I arranged them in the order Color 1, Color 2, Color 3, Color 1, Color 3, Color 2, Color 1. After that, each of the cards has some unique aspects of its design.
Hand–Penned Petals and Misty Moonlight
For the card on the left, I mounted Hand-Penned Petals Designer Paper strips onto a 5-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Misty Moonlight, embossed with the Ornate Floral 3D Embossing Folder. I chose a floral pattern from the Paper set that featured Misty Moonlight in its pattern so the cardstock at the floral strip complemented each other well. Then I picked two other colors – Pale Papaya and Mint Macaron – that were also featured in that floral design for Colors 2 and 3.
For this card, I tied a piece of Pale Papaya 1/2″ Woven Ribbon around the top of the card front, finishing it with a bow. Then I mounted the card front to a card base also made of Misty Moonlight Cardstock.
Sweet Symmetry and Calypso Coral
The Sweet Symmetry Designer Paper is true to its name, with symmetrical patterns all through the set of papers. So I also tried to keep to a symmetrical them as I worked with other design using the paper. For this card, I cut the three strips of the multicolored pattern so that the same elements lined up across the card. One of the colors in the “flowers” in this paper is Calypso Coral. So I chose Calypso Coral as the cardstock on which to mount the strips.
With this card design, as with most of the cards you’ll see this month, I cut the main background piece of cardstock (or paper in some cases) at 5-1/4″ x 4″. Then I cut another complementary color at 5-3/8″ x 4-1/8″. For this card, the second color is Just Jade, which is another color in the Designer Paper set.
I also featured Calypso Coral in the Baker’s Twine that’s wrapped around this card. It’s actually White Baker’s Twine that I colored with my Calypso Coral Light Stampin’ Blends marker. It matches the rest of the Calypso Coral in this card beautifully.
Tidings of Christmas and a Sneak Peek
This month is the month when I typically start making my Christmas Cards. So of course I had to feature the Tidings of Christmas Designer Paper set in a few of my posts. Yes, there will be Christmas papers in the upcoming Mini Catalog. But my favorite is the Tidings of Christmas paper set in the Annual Catalog. I love all the floral patterns in this set, and chose two multicolored designs for my strips, adding in a strip of a Cherry Cobbler monochrome print to complete the 3-color set.
And you’ll notice that I even brought in a fourth color from the paper set as my background layer instead of cardstock. I just love how all the patterns in this set coordinate so well! For the second layer I used Basic White Cardstock and then mounted the whole thing onto a card base of Cherry Cobbler Cardstock.
And here’s the Sneak Peek. The ribbon is one of the wonderful ribbons that are going to be featured in the July – December Mini Catalog that will be released to the public on August 3rd. It’s a one-month delay for its release. But it is definitely going to be worth the wait. My ribbon stash is definitely larger since I was able to preorder lots of stuff from this catalog.
Finally — the Sentiments and Embellishments
The sentiments for the first two cards are from the Lovely You Stamp Set. For the Tidings of Christmas card, I used the coordinating Tidings and Trimmings Stamp Set. That little sentiment is perfect for little tags on a card such as this.
I embellished the sentiment layer of the Sweet Symmetry card with two Just Jade gems from the 2020-2022 In Color Square Gems pack. That felt like it brought the Just Jade color out just a little bit more, which I really like. For the Tidings of Christmas card I added three of the red rhinestones from the Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels set.
