Aloha, All!
In a few days, I’ll be telling you more about the current Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog and Sale-a-Bration brochures. But yesterday, I just couldn’t resist the urge to work with some of the gifts that fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrators game me last fall to help me recover from our house being destroyed by lava.
I’ve been eyeing the pack of Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper ever since I unpacked it last month. When I received cards from sister Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators last summer, this was a set of paper that was featured in many of them. When I saw that the sheet with the Mint Macaron and Cajun Craze leaves had a beautiful Cajun Craze print on the back, I knew right away that I wanted to make a card with the back of the paper folded to the front in a peek-a-boo fashion (durned if I can remember what this is formally called!).
The next step was to decide what color I wanted to show when the paper was folded back. I chose Mint Macaron Cardstock. Then, seeing how plain that looked, I finally rescued my Sizzix Big Shot from its cupboard, and used the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to make a design on the cardstock that made it look beautifully textured.
I also loved the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set, also sent as a gift, especially the large, “Thinking of You,” stamp. That made it easy to decide what to use as the centerpiece to cover the middle of the folds. I stamped the sentiment using Cajun Craze Classic Ink on Whisper White Cardstock. I matted it with Cajun Craze Cardstock and rounded the corners of both using the Detailed Trio Punch.
As I was about to glue the sentiment layers onto the card front, I wondered if I didn’t need something in the way of ribbon behind it. I looked at the catalog pages with the Nature’s Poem Suite and saw that there was coordinating twine! So I snipped a piece of Mint Macaron Twine from the Nature’s Twine set and wound it around the back of the sentiment before I adhered it to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
As I was about to call the card finished, I realized that I really needed something to make it look like the tips of the folded edge were held down by something (other than the adhesive under them!). I’d just had the Faceted Dots embellishments out a day or two before, and I thought I recalled them having Mint Macaron Dots. They did! So on they went, and the card was done.
I love it when a card turns out the way I kind of envisioned it before I started, and enjoy the process of seeing how the steps to make the card just kind of make their way into the process. I hope you have that kind of enjoyment, too!
Happy stamping!
