Stamping With Stitching?

April 2, 2019 by Robin

Aloha, all!

Many of you who have crafted with me over the years know that my first crafting love was needlework. I was all into that hobby, entering competitions, attending conferences, and gathering with friends for stitching sessions. But when the stamping bug hit me in the mid-1980s, my stitching rather quickly retreated into nothingness. Yes, I still had some unfinished projects hanging around for several years. But those were among many items in my old Craft Room that succumbed to the lava eruption last year.

But, in going through my stash of swaps from February, I was reminded that the Stampin’ Up! 2019 Occasions Catalog has a fantastic suite of products called Needlepoint Nook.

There are several “stitched” images in this card. The first two are the stamped flower and leaf images in the central layer. Actually, there were probably three stamps used, with one of them being the center area of the flower. All of them are from the Needle & Thread Stamp Set. As I look at the stamps in the set, I can see where a small stamp may have been used to accent the larger flower.

But then you have to look at those fabulous stitched images in the Designer Series Paper used as the background. They have to be photographic images placed in different designs on all of the sheets of the Needlepoint Nook Designer Series Paper. For each sheet of this Designer Series Paper, there is one of the stitched floral designs on one side. On the other side of each is a more solid style of paper design, with each having some kind of a stitching feel to it. One of them is the Old Olive colored paper at the bottom of the card.

As it stands now, I do not myself have any plans to order anything from this suite of products. There are so many other products from the Occasions Catalog I have but have not used. Perhaps if the stamp set – and there are Framelit Dies to go with it! – carry over to the next Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog, I just might consider it. Crossing my fingers and toes! I pretty much try to keep only current Stampin’ Up! products in my Craft Room so you’ll know that, if you see something here, you can definitely buy it from Stampin’ Up!

But you have no such restrictions! Do you do needlework such as counted thread or needlepoint? If so, this might just be the perfect stamp and paper collection to have in your stash. They make great cards to go with those great needlework designs you stitch as gifts for friends and family!

Whether you’re stamping or stitching or both, have fun with it!

I have been stamping and paper crafting for over 30 years, and have been an Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator for 14 years.

My favorite part of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator is teaching others to enjoy crafting themselves. Not only do I conduct classes in person, I write tutorials for teaching anyone who has internet access. No matter if you're in my area in The Villages in Florida or anywhere else in the world, let me know if there's something you'd like to learn! Read More…
