Aloha, all!
After some of my crafting sessions in Robin's Craft Room, I inevitably become hungry for some fruit – Mango, Cantaloupe, Cherry, Pear, Plum – well you get the picture! But lately my craving has been for either Tangerine or Tangelo! We have a tangerine tree in our garden, and we may have some fruit – but not really soon. I end up having to go with apples, peaches and grapes for now.
But back to the Tangerine and Tangelo – two current pieces in the Stampin' Up! fruit basket – Tangelo Twist and Tangerine Tango. For the most part the last month or so I've been concentrating on Tangelo Twist because (1) it's a new color, and new always thrills me; and (2) there's a ribbon in the color that's almost as luscious as the fruit. But in today's card, I let a little Tangerine sneak in.
Once again – and the last time for at least another week or so – I got the idea for this card from an old magazine. That card featured a black and white central piece for the background, along with some green and red to accent it. But it just screamed "Christmas Card" to me, and I'm not quite ready for that! So I checked out my Color Coach a bit and settled on the Tangelo Twist and Bermuda Bay color combo.
The basic card is fairly straight forward and easy to make. A standard-sized 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" card, with a 5-1/4" x 4" mat, and then designs on top. The design for this card is the oldie-but-goodie Sizzix Top Note Bigz Die. I cut a piece of the floral print from the Back to Black Designer Series Paper set, and then hand-trimmed around the edge of the die cut piece on the perforations placed on the paper by the die. Then I cut a piece of Tangelo Twist Cardstock and used it as a mat behind the trimmed Designer Series Paper die cut. I adhered that to the Bermuda Bay Cardstock, tied a piece of Tangelo Twist 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon, and then layered it all on top of the Tangelo Twist card base.
For my sentiment for this card, I found that the Thank You stamp from the Wetlands Stamp Set fit beautifully. I adhered it so the top of the stamped and matted element was aligned with the top of the ribbon and added a paperclip from the Basics Hodgepodge Clips. The clip is not actually holding anything together but I thought it was a cute touch.
Here I was again about to photograph my project when I decided it needed something more. But believe it or not, I was a bit weary of rhinestones, and pearls didn't seem to be what this needed either. Then I remembered Candy Dots! It had been a few projects since I broke them out, so it was time to get them out again. But there is no Candy Dot for Stampin' Up!'s temporary "In Colors," and Bermuda Bay didn't feel like a "flower color" to me. That's when the Tangerine Tango Candy Dots snuck into my project. If you look really closely at the color (check out the two different colors in the product display below, too), you'll see there's not a perfect match. But if I hadn't mentioned it, you may not have noticed that the colors are slightly different. They're certainly not placed beside each other. So Tangerine Tango Candy Dots it was!
Over the next week you're going to see some more orange, but most of it is going to be Tangerine Tango – though I'll be sneaking in some Tangelo Twist in some projects, too!
