Aloha, all!
Today I just felt like coloring something in! The good news is that Stampin' Up! has lots of "line art" stamps that are perfect for those of us who get the urge to go back to grade school and play within something akin to a coloring book.
So today was the first day that I pulled out the brand new background stamp, Pleasant Poppies. But this stamp is more than a background – it's a stamp with a beautiful image that can also be a main feature in a card or scrapbook page! I actually started out with this card thinking that I'd just use it as a line art background image. But that urge to get out my Stampin' Write Markers and color it in was just too much. Actually, when it came to the flowers themselves, I went a bit further and decided to shade them a bit, which meant also getting out my Blender Pens to use with Cajun Craze ink. I ended up coloring all the "poppies" in with the blender pen. I was left to use only the Lucky Limeade Marker to color in the stems. Yes, I colored outside the lines a bit. But my mantra with that is, "But it looks hand made!"
I also broke out a Sizzix Embossing Folder, Designer Frames to frame the "Thank You" note. That stamp comes from the Stamp Set, Just Believe. The original stamp had the words side-by-side. But, as I frequently do, I cut up the stamp and mounted each of the two words separately so that I could have a bit more flexibility in how I use them – as in this card! I also did a bit of hand cutting of the embossed frame, as that was the exact look I wanted, and trimming around the oval was very easy.
For my finishing touch I decided not to use ribbon (gasp!). Instead, I added two Cajun Craze Brads from the Regals Brads pack, matted the stamped layer with the Lucky Limeade Card Stock to accent the stems, and mounted it all on a Cajun Craze card base.
I still don't have the coloring urge out of my system. So I'm off to find something else to play with! Play will definitely be the word for this weekend as I hope that I will soon be getting my preorder from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog. You are going to be SOOO surprised and delighted by this catalog. Just a few more weeks, and I'll be able to share a few more details with you.
Enjoy your weekend!
Simply gorgeous, stunning, and beautiful. The more i see this stamp… The more I NEED it (it has NOW become a Need And no longer just a "want". LOVE love love it!
I have to agree with Carol. I liked this stamp set because I like poppies but decided against it because it's a background stamp and I tend to just buy those and let them sit. But I've seen so many cards made with it–I'm seriously considering changing my opinion and moving it to the "want" side. I also like the way you used he designer frame. I always think I have to put a contrasting color behind my frames but the white on white with the poppies is soooo pretty.
Really enjoyed this card. Simple but all the work that went into it makes just so pretty. I just might have to get that stamp so I can play with it. Thanks for sharing. Delightful.
Gorgeous card! The shading of the poppies is beautiful. You should "color" more often!
Robin, this has become a favorite stamp and a friend and I were just playing with it this afternoon. I love the poppies the way you've colored them. We were saying that they would be pretty in colors other than red. You sure have proven that!
Gorgeous card Robin!!
