Razzleberry Birthday Card!

Aloha, all!

     Ah, I think I may actually be back into some semblance of normalcy in my life.  That's not to say that there's not a day in my week that doesn't have some meeting or another in it – ALL week!  But at least none of them is taking a huge chunk out of any of those days.  Today was an exception.  But I decided when I arrived home from my usual afternoon-long game of duplicate bridge that I was going to make a card.  So there!!!  But I felt like doing something different.  Working on my Christmas Card Layout eBook this summer meant that I used most of my "standard" folds to spice it up a bit.  So I sat down in front of a football game with my husband and started leafing through the current issue of Paper Crafts magazine.  Bingo!  The "Go to Gals" had some folds! 

     Like this Z-fold card!  There were a couple of things that I liked about this design.  The first thing that caught my eye was the diagonal cut of the card.  I'd seen this before, but I really liked the scallop trim border on that angle.  The other thing that I liked about this particular card was that the left side of the card was adhered at the side and bottom to the back of the card – making a pocket!  So a pocket Z-fold card it was, with a Birthday Present Bookmark!

    

     And here's the inside, opening as you'd expect a good little card to do – on the right.  I used the Petite Pairs Stamp Set to coordinate the Birthday greeting on the bookmark with the greeting inside the card.  Nice!

     And now for all those colors and flowers – they're all part of one of the Simply Scrappin' Sets in the Stampin' Up! 2012-2013 Catalog – Razzleberry Splash.  I love this paper and have almost run out of it.  But now that I see how much fun it is to use the flowers and borders that are part of the set, I'm sure I'll be using those up soon, too, leaving me with a really good excuse to buy another kit!

     The accent color that I picked for this paper was the Lucky Limeade color that is part of the Simply Scrappin' Kit.  I removed the adhesive backing on several of the flowers so that I could nicely layer them up on the front of the card using Stampin' Dimensionals.  I cut a slit on the left fold of the card to run the Lucky LImeade 3/8" Ruffled Ribbon around the card front.  I actually just cut an 8" length of the ribbon and adhered the ends to the card front under the flowers and then I tied a bow over at the left side.  It's an easy way to make a bow lean to the side (which I wanted in this case) rather than to the top or bottom.

     Even with all these fun accessories, it still seems that I am no longer able to make a card without my Sizzix Big Shot.  For this card, I used one of the Floral Frames Framelits (the middle sized flower) behind the die cut flowers from the kit, as well as the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder for the bookmark.  There there's the mat layer for the inside greeting using the Apothecary Accents Framelits!  Such nice touches!

     To make this card, I used a 9" x 12" piece of Designer Series Paper from the kit, scored it at 4" and 8" across the top (12" side), and cut it on an angle as shown in the sketch below.  With this cut, you can make two cards out of the one piece of paper.  This also makes a card that will fit nicely into a standard A2 card envelope (Stampin' Up!'s Medium Envelope), though you do have to tuck the bookmark down into the card a bit more than I'm showing.
