Aloha, all!
Well, this isn't exactly a "new" stamp set as in a stamp set I ordered from the new 2015-2016 Stampin' Up! Catalog. But it is new in my craft room and I haven't used it on its own until now. You see, this is one of the stamps that was included in the May 2015 Paper Pumpkin kit. While I love those kits, I tend not to feature them here too much because it's not something that I can offer to sell you, as I can offer all the other products that I feature in my blog posts. But there is the possibility that you can get some of these stamps, and I'll explain at the end of this post.
For now, we're at the time for another SUO Challenges biweekly challenge! This time the challenge is to have something other than a straight, clean, line for the edge of our projects. As I looked around my craft room, my eyes fell on the Squares Collection Framelits, and I wondered how that might work for this challenge. Pretty well, I think!
Once I chose a square for my card shape, I decided that the various layers would also be squares. It just was the simplest way to get the project done! Then I went looking for stamps to fill a small, center, square, allowing the paper from the Cherry on Top Designer Series Paper Stack to show its colors. That's when I ended up taking out the very square stamp set from my May Paper Pumpkin kit. My layers for that central image are Cucumber Crush, Watermelon Wonder, then some Pool Party Cardstock. Pool Party is one of the colors in the balloons floating skyward in that designer paper, and it's an easier color on which to stamp than the Crushed Curry or the red or green would have been.
One of my fellow SUO Challenges Design Team Members, Karen Barber, is forever making the most gorgeous projects with ribbon tied up and floating all over the place. So, in looking for an embellishments for this card, I took a small page out of her book and let the Watermelon Wonder 1" Dotted Lace Trim go wherever it wanted. Then, of course, I had to make an envelope to fit the card, and out came my brand new 2015-2017 In Color Envelope Paper. Yes, envelope paper – 12" square, light printed paper that is PERFECT FOR ENVELOPES made using the Envelope Punch Board. This card ended up being 4-1/2" x 4-3/4" so I made an envelope to fit that shape. Reminder: square enveloped cost more to mail in the U.S.
In case you've never used on of the Stampin' Up! framelits to make a card, what you do is to (1) fold your base card in half and, (2) run it through the Sizzix Big Shot with the folded side just barely inside the cutting edge of the framelit. Really very simple. The base of this card is the Whisper White Thick Cardstock, and two thicknesses of it was cut by the framelit just fine.
For the first layer, which also has the scalloped edge, I ran a piece of Watermelon Wonder cardstock through the Big Shot using the largest square framelit, BUT I moved one side inwards one scallop's width. Once I had the three scalloped edges, I just had to trim the fourth edge to fit the same distance from the folded edge as the scallops were from the scalloped edge of the card base.
Now, about the Paper Pumpkin Subscription: You can subscribe for 3 or 6 months. Once you become a subscriber, you have the option of purchasing earlier kits or even just the disposables from earlier kits. Availability is limited. Of course, you can always just order a Paper Pumpkin kit one month at a time, which is what I frequently do. I've had fun with my kits. They good not just for beginning stampers, but for those who like something quick and easy to do once in a while!
