Aloha, all!
Once again I have a project that resulted from a challenge. This particular challenge was to CASE (an acronym for Copy and Share with Everyone) a project in the new 2015-2016 Stampin' Up! Catalog.
As I went through the catalog, I realized that I had, indeed, been very frugal about what I bought from this catalog that was new to Stampin' Up! On the other hand, CASE does not mean that everything in the project has to be copied exactly – in fact, most CASEd projects are just trying to get the sense of the original project.
For some reason, I started at the back of the catalog and started going through it towards the front. Wouldn't you know it that I got all the way to Page 8 before I found something that felt that I really wanted to try to CASE it for the challenge.
And, yes, this is one of my new stamp sets from the new Stampin' Up! catalog, and I'm still on track to using only my new stamps from the new catalog before I work with anything else! The set for this project is Birthday Blossoms. I bought this set more for its flowers than for its various birthday greetings. But I was happy to use the greeting on this card, too.
While I didn't change the layout for this card too much, I did change two of the colors just because I felt like it. I really like the new Mint Macaron color of green, and chose that for the leaves just because I'd not used it much since the colors first arrived in my craft room. I wasn't sure which color had been used for the sentiment and one of the flowers, but I decided on Cherry Cobbler because I definitely had Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine in my ribbon collection. Two features that I did keep from the original was stamping the Hello Honey Cardstock with the small flower stamps from the set, using Hello Honey Classic Ink. I also used a brush dipped in some watery Hello Honey reinker to make some splatter on both the card base and the Whisper White Cardstock layer.
The big change was in my use of a slightly trimmed Deco Labels Collection Framelit, which the sample in the catalog used one of the new Lots of Labels Framelits. As for the slightly showing Watermelon Wonder 1" Dotted Lace Trim, I had intended just to leave the trim out of this project. So far I've only bought Watermelon Wonder and Cucumber Crush Dotted Lace Trim, and not the Delightful Dijon that seemed to be featured in the sample. But then I decided that just a tinge of watermelon color couldn't hurt. I tried it out before I glued everything down and liked it more than I thought I would. So stay it did!
As I was going through the new Stampin' Up! catalog, I did see some other projects that I thought it would be fun to CASE. I've already tried out one other, and I'll be sharing it with you for another challenge project in a couple of weeks. Oh, and it uses one of my new stamp sets, too!
Meanwhile, here are the products that I used in this project!
