Aloha, all!
Time for another Stampin' Up! Only Challenge, and this time it's to make a project that features Glitter! Looking around my craft room, I'm amazed at how much in the way of glitter there is in there. But where to start? I first thought of the beautiful new Sizzix Bigz Die, Snow Flurry. But I've used it a lot lately and I wanted something different. So I browsed through my collection of Sizzix Framelits and came upon the Candy Cane. But it wasn't immediately evident how I was going to get the stripes that a candy cane requires AND the glitter without making the little paper candies too thick for the framelit to cut. It wasn't long, though, before I figured it out!
I cut 1/4" strips of both the Stampin' Up! Silver Glimmer Paper and the Red Glimmer Paper. Then I put some SNAIL adhesive on a piece of plain copy paper and adhered the strips of the two Glimmer Papers, alternating colors. With the thinness of the copy paper, the Candy Cane from the Holiday Collection Framelits cut through the Glimmer Paper perfectly! I cut the strips 5-1/2" long and had plenty of room for even more than the three Candy Canes I needed for my project.
Here's a hint born from experience: put adhesive under the entire strip, not just enough to anchor it to the paper. If it's not glued down where you cut it, those little pieces of the strips just fall right off! My second try was much more successful.
Oh, and I'm glad I didn't use the snowflakes! Two members of the SUO Challenge Design Team got to their projects before me with those Snowflakes! Hop on over the the Stampin' Up! Only Challenges blog and see what they and the rest of the team has done. Better still, why don't you join in our challenge! We'd love to have you all!
How clever Robin!!! I love the glittery candy canes! Great take on the SUO Challenge!
This is a great idea, Robin. Love the glittered candy canes. I bet the 12×12 adhesive sheets would work, too. I even use them for ribbon.
This is so clever Robin!! Funny how were thinking snowflakes! Brilliant stampers must think alike! 😉 So glad you showed us how to do this!!
I love your sparkley candy canes!
Hello Robin! This Candy Cane card is STUNNING! I have been following you for over a year now and am hoping we can meet at SU!'s 25th Yr Convention!
Really, really impressed with this card. The happiest of the holiday season to you! Thanks for sharing, Laura
Wow, Robin, super jealous of your perfect little candy canes! I would not have thought of that!!
Robin, your candy canes are simply adorable! That's a lot of work cutting and adhering all those strips, but the results were certainly worth it!
Great Card ! Thanks for sharing!
