My First Easter Card of the Season!

All I was supposed to do for today's Stampin' Up! Only Challenge was to make an Easter card. Fun, huh? Stamp a bunny or an egg or some flowers or a religious theme, and the card's done, right?

Not so in Robin's Craft Room where the first card of the Easter season was about to be stamped. Yes, the first. Here it is less than two weeks before my favorite Spring holiday, and there was not one Easter card to be seen in the place!

But what stamp was I going to use to start? I have the two newest Easter sets, Blessed Easter and Eggstra Spectacular – certainly there had to be something that I could use. But what?

After stamping quite a few images, I finally settled on the cute little row of eggs from the Eggstra Spectacular Stamp Set. And I thought I might like it if they were stamped in a lot of different colors in enough rows to fit on a card front. That sounded like fun, and it was! Before I go on to chat about the rest of the card, I'd like to share with you how I got those lines of eggs lined up so neatly.

To begin, I knew when I purchased this stamp set that I was going to be using it (1) a lot and (2) in arrangements such as this one. So I bought this set in wood mount form so I could do a better job of lining them up with my Stamp-a-ma-jig than I am able to do with a clear mount stamp. Not only that, I cut off the sentiments before I mounted the art images.

But even with the Stamp-a-ma-jig, I thought I would need some help getting those little rows of eggs to be the same distance apart. So I made my Grid Paper do double duty – be my work surface and be my guide! This is how I did it:

I stamped the image onto the Stamp-a-ma-jig plastic.
I laid the plastic onto the grid paper and lined the image up with one of the grid lines running straight through the middle.
I used a Sharpie and ruler to draw a horizontal line through the middle of the image on the Stamp-a-ma-jig.
I laid the Whisper White Cardstock so that the line I wanted to stamp went through the dark horizontal line on the grid paper, and then stamped the image.
I moved the cardstock up two grid lines and repeated the process.

As you can see, I used lots of colors for this project: Calypso Coral, Tempting Turquoise, Crushed Curry, Perfect Plum, Rose Red, and Wild Wasabi.

When I trimmed this sheet, I ended up with a piece of stamped Whisper White Cardstock that was 4-3/4" high by 3" wide. As I wanted this to be centered on a card base, the final card ended up being not quite as wide as a standard card that goes in an A2 envelope – it was 3-3/4" wide instead of 4-1/4" wide. Not too much of a difference and this will still go nicely into an A2 envelope.

I finished off the card with mats of Crushed Curry and Wild Wasabi on a Rose Red card base. The sentiment is from the Delightful Dozen Stamp Set, and I punched it and its mat with the Modern Label Punch. For the mat, I folded a scrap of Rose Red cardstock in half and punched the folded cardstock to make the mat a bit taller than the original punch size.

I tied the project together with a bow made of Wild Wasabi 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon, and added some color to some of the eggs in the rows with a Basic Pearl Jewel Accent in each.

So my first Easter Card is done! Now to get some more done so I don't miss getting all the cards I want to in the mail!!!
