Aloha, all!
Wow, I just LOVE the new Designer Series Paper, Back to Black! I've seen quite a few projects online using it, and I finally had a few minutes this week to play with it myself. What fun designs!
You can see four of the 12 designs in the paper set on this card. The floral design and the design on the three banners are opposite sides of the same sheet – and I love both sides! I hate it when I like both sides of a sheet of Designer Series Paper equally because I have to pay attention to how I'm cutting either side to make sure I don't cut into a design on the other side that I might want to use in another project. That's not so much of a problem with this sheet, though, as the chevron style design covers the whole sheet.
When I started out to make this card, I decided I wanted just to use black and white, and just have one or two red Candy Dots as a final accent. I found this sketch in an online challenge and so I tried the idea out on the sketch. I used the new Zig Zag Embossing Folder on the main layer of the card, as well as on the small layer on which I placed the three 1-1/4" squares of Designer Series Paper. I adhered the squares with Stampin' Dimensionals and the embossing really shows up nicely "in real life."
There were three banners in the sketch, so I punched the paper with the chevron design using the Banner Punch. As you can see, I punched them carefully so that each of the banners is punched almost exactly with the identical design.
To finish the card, I stamped "thank you" from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set on Whisper White Cardstock and then punched it with the Word Window Punch, adding a Real Red Candy Dot at each end before adhering it to the lower right corner of the card.
But I was not happy with the way it looked. I had wanted just black and white, but looking at the finished product, I felt there was just too much white. So, although I had already photographed resized and done a bit of editing of the final photograph, I went back and added that strip of Real Red Cardstock at the top of the banners. MUCH better in my opinion! Here's a photo of the original card. What do you think?
I may have to let this paper sit a bit before I try to use it again. That shouldn't be a problem as there's plenty of new Designer Series Paper that I haven't used yet, and it's surely feeling lonely in my paper box!
