Aloha, all!
I cannot believe that I actually had time to write a blog post today! Poor kitty's sick again and will be overnighting at the vet's (sniff). On top of that it looks as if we are actually going to move back into our own home next month. But first we have to paint inside (why not while there's hardly any furniture there!) and it was my job to get paint and flooring samples as it looks like the redo will start on Monday! That's a big hooray!
While I was at the house yesterday taking care of some business, my next door neighbor asked if I might have time to make a birthday card for her grand niece's First Birthday. Of course I could! That's what I do, and I rarely have the opportunity to have to make something for a baby. I could hardly wait to get back to our rental where I have my temporary craft room and get working on it!
What fun it was to get back to some basics from the Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog! Would you believe I couldn't remember what I had? I finally had to go to the Stampin' Up! website and search for "birthday," run through all the pictures, and finally say, "Ooooh, I have that – I think"!
It's been so long since I've used the Cupcake Builder Punch that I was worried, in our climate, that it would be stuck closed. Woo-hoo, it opened right up and punched beautifully!
For the bottom and cherry pieces of the cupcake, I used a Hello Honey colored sheet from the Lullaby Designer Series Paper (DSP) Set. For the "frosting" I used one of the Coastal Cabana sheets from the 2013-2015 In Color Background DSP Stack. Then I took each of these two sheets to make the mats for the stamped layer and the card front.
I mounted the cupcake on a sheet of Whisper White Cardstock and stamped "Happy Birthday" on the same sheet using Coastal Cabana Classic Ink and the Sassy Salutations Stamp Set. After I mounted this layer onto the DSP mat layers, I tied a piece of Coastal Cabana Thick Baker's Twine around it and finished it in a bow. Then I mounted this whole layer onto another sheet from the Lullaby DSP Set.
After I put the whole card together, I made the little circle element in the lower right corner of the card, first stamping the numeral, "1," on some Whisper White Cardstock using Coastal Cabana Ink and the Blockhead Alphabet Stamp Set. Then I punched the numeral out using the 1/2" Circle Punch, and finally I mounted it on a piece of the Coastal Cabana DSP which I'd punched with the 7/8" Circle Scallop Punch.
Whew, lots of products in this project – but I loved getting my hands on so many things I've not used in forever! This is always a fun thing to do. But for the next few projects, I'm going to be focusing on the new 2015 Occasions Catalog – lots of fun, too!
