Aloha, all!
Yesterday was my husband's birthday. And for him I made my very first card using some brand new cardstock and papers.
The new paper that I used is a sheet from the Moonlight Designer Series Paper Stack. I've told you before how much I love these stacks with lots of small sheets of paper that are perfect for cutting up to make cards. (They're 4" x 6", so they're perfect for Project Life projects, too!)
I picked this sheet, with some of the new Lost Lagoon color after I'd decided on the colors of the cardstock that I was going to use. I wanted to use one of the new colors of cardstock, but I'm still not used to them and how they coordinate with other colors. So I went browsing through some magazines and found the perfect color combination on a page of a 2011 Paper Crafts Magazine called, "Color Inspiration for Card Makers." And, surprise! It was an inspiration! Actually not only was I inspired by the colors, I was inspired by the sketch, too.
The card base and the top of the front layer of the card are made with Lost Lagoon Cardstock. So far this is my favorite of the new colors. But I'm going to try out some of the others this week and, of course, I'll share them with you.
The other two colors in this card are from the 2013-2015 collection of In Colors – Baked Brown Sugar and Pistachio Pudding. I adhered the Baked Brown Sugar layer to the card base, then I constructed the rest of the card. I cut some Lost Lagoon and Pistachio Pudding into 5-1/4" wide by 2" high and taped them together. Then I adhered a piece of the Moonlight DSP to the middle of this makeshift layer after sponging all around with Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink. At this point I used my Paper-Piercing Tool and one of the sheets from the Essentials Paper Piercing Pack to create a line of piercing around the periment of this layer. Then I stamped, "Happy Birthday," from the new Hostess Stamp Set, Bloom with Hope, using the Baked Brown Sugar ink.
For the elements in the middle of the card, I punched 3 layers alternating Baked Brown Sugar and Pistachio Pudding Card stock. The bottom layer is punched with the 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch, the middle layer, which I stamped with a flower from the stamp set to give it some texture of its own, with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch, and the top layer with the 7/8" Scallop Circle Punch. Then I texturized all the layers together with the Perfect Polkadot Embossing Folder. Finally, I added a small brad from the Antique Brads collection.
I put the card together by first adhering the layer with the cardstock and paper to the Baked Brown Sugar layer on the card base. Then I added each of the scallop circle elements to the paper strip using Stampin' Dimensionals.
What a fun card this was to make – and I'm so looking forward to using all the other new colors before too long!
