Aloha, all!
The last time (and, actually, the first time!) that I used the High Tide Designer Series Paper set was for a gift for my friend, Maureen. Because Maureen is involved with Whale Watch, it's not surprising that this time I used the same paper in a card that's also for Maureen! This time it's for a very special birthday that she is celebrating today!
There is a stamp set – Hello, Sailor – that is meant to go with this paper. But the whales in the paper are just so durned cute that I've figured I could just fussy cut whale shapes out of the paper and leave the stamp set for others to purchase. I am definitely not a person who has to have everything in the Stampin' Up! catalog!!
Let me explain a bit more about this paper set. One sheet is made up of fun swirls of water in which there are little fishies swimming. The little darlings are colored Pacific Point, Calypso Coral, and Summer Starfruit. You can see them in several places on the front of this card. Another sheet of the paper is filled with pictures of whales in Soft Sky, Smoky Slate, and Pacific Point. It is the Pacific Point Whales that I chose for cutting out both in this card and in the first one that I made for Maureen. They just seem so vibrant among all the other colors of this paper!
To make this a birthday card, I chose one of the images from the Delightful Dozen Stamp Set that's in the Stampin' Up! 2013-14 Annual Catalog. This is a great stamp set for the spring because it includes stamps for Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Valentine's Day, as well as a nice Get Well and Congratulations stamp and, of course, Christmas and Hanukkah holiday stamps. Definitely a "delightful" dozen stamps!
I stamped the birthday stamp twice, once using Pacific Point Classic Ink and once using Tangerine Tango Classic Ink. I cut the Pacific Point image using one of the dies from the Labels Collection Framelits, and then cut two of the "wishes" from the Tangerine Tango image and adhered them over the same wishes on the original Pacific Point image. (I know that the color in the paper set is Calypso Coral. But I felt like using some of the Tangerine Tango Paper from the Retro Fresh Designer Series Paper Set as one of the mats on the card front, so I chose to use Tangerine Tango for my stamping, too). I also cut one of the Labels Collection Framelits out of Tangerine Tango Cardstock as a mat for the greeting layer, also cut with a die from the Labels Collection Framelits.
To pull that last color – Summer Starfruit – in, I used a piece of the Summer Starfruit 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon to provide the final accent for this card.
The card base is a piece of 6" x 12" Naturals White Cardstock folded to make a 6" square card. After all, with this big a birthday, you can bet there will be a party where we are going to have lots of people signing the card! Oh, and I made an envelope for this fun card, also out of a sheet from the same DSP set. I used the Stampin' Up! Envelope Punch Board to make an envelope for this 6" square card, and I included it in the photo of the card itself.
I had lots of fun making this card – and even more fun trying to find someone to take it to have it signed between the time I finished and the time of Maureen's Birthday Party. Our mutual friend, Sandy, took over and this card is definitely in good hands!
