Aloha, all!
The Stampin' Up! Stamp Set, Dinoroar, was first offered for sale last year. It was also one of the first stamps I purchased from last year's Stampin' Up! catalog because my grandson, Jadon, loves dinosaurs – of course I'd buy it! Guess how many times I've used it! Twice – once for Jadon's birthday last year and now for his birthday this year – which is this weekend!
Happy Birthday, Jadon!
You might recognize the design of this card as similar to the Z-Fold card I made earlier this month. There are a few parts of this card that are a bit different from that card, though. The first is that the Z-fold element itself is made up of two layers of Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper on the front and back parts of the fold. The Old Olive colored paper is from the paper set, Polka Dot Parade. The purple paper is a Rich Razzleberry colored design from the paper set, Floral District.
You might want to know how I hit on Floral District for a dinosaur-themed card, and I'll be happy to tell you! As I was going through my papers trying to decide which paper to use, I knew right away that those dark ovals are definitely dinosaur eggs! I wonder if Stampin' Up! knows that's what they are.
🙂
The second design element that's different in this card is that I did not adhere the middle part of the fold to the back part. I wanted those ferocious-looking critters each to have its own edge on which to perch when the card is unfolded. The best way to do that was to have that middle part of the fold with an open edge.
And finally the third difference is that I attached the whole folded element to a standard card base. It just felt like it would be more fun to have yet another opening in the card for our grandson to play with – though he's quite old enough now that playing with greeting cards is not a priority. Nonetheless, grandmothers like to think their grandkids are forever playfully young!
Now back to the colors. Once I had Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry chosen as my colors for this card, it was a close second step to use those colors for the dinosaurs. I love sets like this that cry out to be watercolored. Now, I'm not much of a watercolorist, but I do like to try my hand at it now and again. I began with a light wash of Old Olive, then added darker Old Olive shadows. Finally I added some shadows of Rich Razzleberry to pick up the color in the Dinosaur Egg paper as well as the Rich Razzleberry Card Stock card base. Oh, if you must know, I even painted the dinosaur toe nails with Rich Razzleberry. The devil made me do it!
So, as one of the other stamps in this set says, "Roar! (that means happy birthday in dinosaur)"
