Aloha, all!
When I’m having the kind of a day (week, month?) where I just cannot get started on any kind of card-making project at all, I look online for something to CASE (Copy And Share with Everyone). Early last month when my friend, Donna, was in town and we were crafting a bit, we worked together to design the card that I shared in yesterday’s post. While she was making her second version of yesterday’s card, I was off trying to come up with an idea for using the same Follow Your Art Designer Series Paper (DSP) and It Starts With Art Stamp Set. I just couldn’t come up with my own design, so off I went to find something to CASE. Fairly quickly, I found several Stampin’ Up! demonstrators who were sharing a copy of a card that had been one of the make and takes at the latest Stampin’ Up! convention, On Stage.
Aha! Now that was a card I could CASE and quickly at that. Donna agreed that this would make a fun card to make, and off we went to make our own version of the card.
I’m sure you can see right away that our preference was to highlight the Pacific Point color in the DSP. As part of our thinking about the color we would use, we chose to make the Pacific Point Cardstock a background layer, and not the card base. We like the idea of a white border around a card front. As in the original card, we used Versamark Ink to stamp button stamps all over the edges of the Pacific Point layer to create a fun design for the background layer.
Not only did we decide to use Pacific Point as the background layer, we decided to carry it further to be the mat for the stamped layer. Smaller changes that we made include coloring one of the ribbon spools in the Blushing Bride Ink color that’s included in this DSP, and make the stripe in that same spool feature Pacific Point Ink to carry the blue theme through the card.
We couldn’t decide if the Crushed Curry strip at the bottom of the stamped layer was a strip of DSP or a strip of Washi Tape. As I did not at the time own the Washi Tape, we went with a strip of DSP. If you notice on the original card, there’s a little bit of a Coastal Cabana image on the DSP showing just off to the left of the Crushed Curry strip. We liked that, and out came my spool of Bermuda Bay 1/4″ Mini Striped Ribbon to include behind the Crushed Curry strip. The color in that ribbon is so soft that it goes well with a Coastal Cabana element.
Our final touch was to use some of the Bermuda Bay dots in the Glitter Enamel Dots collection.
I’ve included the main products that we used in this card in the below list. But, as with yesterday’s post, the Stamp Set and Designer Series Paper are not available until June 4th. The other products are in the current Stampin’ Up! catalog and will also be in the next catalog. So those you can order at any time!
Happy Stamping!
