Aloha, all!
Oh, my, do I have a Good-News-Bad-News story to tell today!
First the good news (of course!). I had a great time with our daughter and three grandchildren in my craft room yesterday morning. We all got together to make Thank You notes for our next door neighbors, Marie and Gary, for something wonderfully nice they did for us all!
I set a small table up in the middle of my craft room so that I could quickly get what it was that each of them wanted to use to make his or her card. As you can see, we used a variety of cardstock colors and punches – all Stampin' Up! products, of course! We limited this session to use of the stamp set, Lots of Thanks. They had full run of my stash of punches and cardstock, and some of the color combos were amazing! You can see the finished products on my facebook page here!
OK, now to ease into the Bad News part of this story. The reason for the Thank You cards was that Marie and Gary took time out from their Sunday afternoon relaxation to go to a local fast food place to pick up some lunch for the kids who were stuck on the side of the road in our van about 10 miles from home (we adults could hold out until we got home). Out in the rural Puna area where we were stuck there is no such thing as even a convenience store. Easing into the bad news a bit more, we were stuck there because we were waiting for grandpa who was waiting for a tow truck to come get our other car, which he had been driving on the way home with one of our granddaughters. Um, the tow truck was needed because they had been in a pretty bad collision. The good news (yay for good news!) is that neither of them nor the other driver was hurt or even shaken up at all. Grandpa had done what he had learned to do in the kind of a collision in which he was about to unwillingly participate and so he just side-swiped the car that was on the verge of hitting them head on.
The newest bad news is that our cute little Toyota Corolla is probably totalled. We're not sure because our insurance company has to contract with someone to come to our area to check it out. But the photos are pretty clear that significant damage was done to the car. But NO damage to grandpa or our granddaughter!
Our van, big enough to hold the 7 of us, is still in good order and we have a rental car for a back up. So we were off and running today to do some more educational sightseeing. As I write this, the two girls and their little brother have already crashed into bed after an exhausting day.
So, while we have had a bit of a set back during the short time that they're with us, we're all back on track and having fun. Maybe even a bit of scrapbooking in the next day or two. Now that will be LOTS of fun for grandma to have with the children!
