Fun with Stampin’ Up! Punches + An Anniversary and Blog Candy!

June 21, 2013 by Robin

Aloha, all!

Today's post is part of a blog hop sponsored by one of my online Stampin' Up! focused groups, VC Rocks. There's more information about this at the end of this post.

But my big news is that this blog post marks the 5th Anniversary of Robin's Craft Room Blog! The anniversary date is June 23rd, and this blog post will be the top post until the end of the day on Sunday, June 23rd.  That's important to you if you'd like to have some blog candy – all three of my Card Layout CDs – for free!  I'll be giving away a set of all three of my CDs to someone who comments on this post today through June 23, 2013!

So keep those comments coming all through the weekend!  Now onto the blog hop projects

——————————

For this month's VC Rocks Blog Hop, we are using some of Stampin' Up!'s fun tools, and I've chosen to focus on punches.  In fact, I've chosen two punches for my two projects – the tried and true Blossom Punch, and the fairly new Hexagon Punch.  I even added in a Sizzix Big Shot product for the second project.

CASE Challenge

I got the idea for this first card by looking through the Stampin' Up! 2013-2014 Annual Catalog.  If you have a catalog and look at the top of page 88, you'll see a project that is a small bag.  It wasn't the bag that caught my eye, it was the color combination and the way that the stamp set, Six Sided Sampler, had been used to form part of the background of the bag.  As I wasn't interested in making a bag, I simply adapted the design for a greeting card layout!

What's most fun about this card is the Blossom Punch and how well it works with the stamp set, Mixed Bunch, and how nice the flower looks with the stamped imaged embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder on the Primrose Petals Card Stock.  I also had fun stamping all those hexagons on the card.  To get the effect of the hexagons fading into the Pool Party Card Stock background, I ripped a piece of plain paper at an angle and laid it over the stamped layer while I finished stamping the hexagons.  Then I lightly sponged some Primrose Petals Classic Ink over the whole background.  I finished by sponging all around the Pool Party layer, before adhering it to the Naturals White Card Stock card base.

Oh, and there's another punch on this card!  I used the 3/4" Circle Punch to make the flower's center, which I stamped with Summer Starfruit Classic Ink on the Naturals White Card Stock, and finished off with a Pool Party Candy Dot.  The "Hello Sweet Friend" sentiment is one of the three sentiments in the Six Sided Sampler Stamp Set, and the strip of ribbon is Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon.

WashiTapeCard

For my second card, I decided to focus on the Hexagon Punch, again filling in the bottom part of the card with hexagons.  I wasn't sure where I was going with this when I started.  But once I had all those hexagons from the Designer Series Paper Set, Epic Day, I immediately thought of the new Epic Day Washi Tape that I bought when I bought the Designer Paper.  So I just plopped some on the card front and called it, "Done"!

Well, not quite.  I wanted to use that Blossom Punch again, as well as one of the other sentiments from the Six Sided Sampler stamp set to tie my two projects together.  This time I just punched some Gumball Green Card Stock with the Blossom Punch, and then ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot  with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  Fun!  Then I stamped the same hexagon as I used in my first card on the Naturals White card stock, along with another sentiment from the set stamped using Gumball Green Classic Ink.  I hand cut the hexagon close to the stamped edge, punching a piece of Calypso Coral Card Stock with the Hexagon Punch to form a mat for the sentiment.

It is SOOO much fun making projects with Stampin' Up!'s fun products and tools!

——————————

Today's post is part of a blog hop sponsored by one of my online Stampin' Up! focused groups, VC Rocks.  The "VC" stands for Virtual Convention, and is a group that gets together online every summer to have our own online Stampin' Up! Convention.  Many of us in the group are going to the "real" Stampin' Up! convention next month, but many are not.  So we are all trying to duplicate many of the convention activities, including swaps, virtual roommates in a virtual hotel.  Lots of fun, and lots of creativity!

This blog hop is a bit different from most that you'll come across.  The group's blog site has links to each of the blogs – such as Robin's Craft Room – who are participating in the hop.  So you'll go back there each time you've finished enjoying the creations on each blog.

——————————

And don't forget the blog candy!  Leave a fun comment for us all to enjoy and you could win a FREE set of my Card Layout CDs!
