Aloha, all!
It's been two weeks since a challenge from the SUO Challenge Design Team, so this must be the week for another one! This time our challenge was to show off Stampin' Up! Designer Series papers in a fun way. Oh, boy! Do I have lots of papers, and lots of ideas for using them that I never get around to trying. So today was the day!
It only took me a moment to remember that the first time I saw the Floral District Designer Series Paper set, I wondered whether any of our scallop circle punches would work with it. And I found out this week when I was pulling this paper out for the challenge – the Scallop Circle Punches work wonderfully!
What I've done with the sheet that's shown on the left of the card front is to punch scallops from two of the designs on the paper (only one design shows up on this particular piece – there are others). To begin, I used the 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch to punch one of the designs that you can see on this piece of paper. Then I used the 1-1/4" Scallop Circle Punch (new in the Holiday Catalog!) to punch the center of one of the other designs. Finally, I hand-cut the very center of the original design and layered them all up, with a Stampin' Dimensional popping the small middle element up a bit. Before I adhered this final small piece, I added a Daffodil Delight Brad.
At the right is a close up of the center element, and I've added a dark line to show where I took a piece of another design from the paper sheet to fill in the center of the first design. Hmmm. I like that line! I may have to try this again with a mat behind the 1-3/4" scallop circle!
Now for the scallop-looking circle behind the whole punched element . It isn't a punch at all – it's one of the Delicate Doily Sizzlits! Of course, you don't see any of the holes in the doily because they're all behind the scallop circle element.
I have to tell you a slightly funny story. I knew what I was going to do with the Sizzlit die cut – I was going to texturize it with one of the Sizzix Embossing Folders in my collection. But I set it aside while I completed the basic card. After some distractions, I took the die cut circle and ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot with the Petals-a-Plenty folder. I was stunned when I picked up my piece of card stock from the folder and found it cut into pieces! I looked at the folder, tried to remember if any of my online demonstrator groups had mentioned this kind of a problem with this folder – all kinds of thoughts going through my head! Until I came back down to the present and realized that it was a doily and all that had happened was that the embossing folder pushed some of the little pieces out of the middle. This did wake me up a bit, though, which was a good thing! Whew!
I added a piece of Rich Razzleberry 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon to decorate the top of the card, and a sentiment, using the stamp set, Teeny Tiny Wishes, punched with the Word Window Punch, matted with a piece of Rich Razzleberry Card Stock and another two Daffodil Delight Brads before I adhered it to the card with a few Stampin' Dimensionals. All of the mats in the card are also Rich Razzleberry Card Stock.
You should definitely head on over to the SUO Challenge Blog to see all the other Design Team projects – and also to welcome our newest member of the design team, Connie Babbert! Oh – and enter your own card in our challenge, too!
This is just fantastic, Robin! Love how you used the punches to really showcase this paper!
