Aloha, all!
It's Tuesday and time for another edition of the Stampin' Up! Only Challenge over at suochallenges.com! This time around the theme is "Fancy Frills," with the challenge being to use some of Stampin' Up!'s stamps and accessories that look, well, "frilly"!
If you follow me much at all, you have to know that frilly doesn't pop up in my projects all that much. My friends and I have some theories about that, but I think it all comes down to my wanting to measure things out and line them up. That tendency does not lend itself well to "frilly." But frilly it had to be, so I decided to just let myself pull out the frills and make a card!
Now I have to tell you that I love all of the new products that I'm showing off on this card – the Sizzix Textured Impressions Folders, the Layered Labels Stamp Set, and the Apothecary Accents Framelits all with their rounded edges and delicate designs. They all shout, "Make something frilly!" But when I stood back and looked at this card and when I pondered its photograph, I could see that I hadn't let the frilly happen because I measured it to death! I can see that I have got to loosen up a bit if I'm ever truly going to find my frilly side.
But I still like this card, and I'll happily send it to someone special this summer. After all, it does show off the newest Stampin' Up! products so nicely!
Two of the new products are the Large Scallop Edgelit which provides a beautiful cut edge for the design from the Delicate Designs Textured Impression Folder. Both the folder and the edgelit are a bit longer than the length of a standard 5-1/2" wide (or high) card. So I could arrange the scallops just where I wanted them, in this card centered across the bottom (See? I measured it to death!). One easy way to make two identical scalloped edges is to run both colors of card stock through the embossing folder at the same time. You can also do this with the edgelit, but I've had the best success with this if one of the layers is Whisper White or Very Vanilla, which is a thinner card stock.
The Layered Labels stamp set has an image that would layer well with the large stamp shown in this card, especially as the other stamp also has a matching framelit in the Apothecary Accents set. But I decided to stick with the one stamp set, and layer it up by punching a stamped piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock with the Extra-Large Oval Punch. The fun part of this was adding a bit of a frilly edge to the oval by outlining it with the piece of the Wisteria Wonder 3/8" Ruffled Ribbon.
I'm not sure I listed all the products in this card, so here's a quick recap:
