Embossing with Color!

April 18, 2011 by Robin

Aloha, all!

Stampin' Up!'s 2011 Summer Mini Catalog has more than just new stamps, punches and papers.  It has new Embossing Powders – and they're in color!  Finally we have some embossing powders that match some of Stampin' Up!'s great colors.  The colors featured in the Summer Mini Catalog are Tangerine Tango, Melon Mambo, and Wild Wasabi.  And they match Stampin' Up!'s papers and inks beautifully!

Thank You Card

The central image on today's card is from a stamp set that is also featured in the 2011 Summer Mini Catalog – Fabulous Florets.  To make this silhouette stamp from the set even MORE fabulous, I stamped it on a sheet from  the Beyond the Garden Designer Paper Set and embossed it with Wild Wasabi Embossing Powder.  You can even see the shine in this photo and it looks even shinier in person!  It really does look like the same color that is in the background layer – which it should because it is!

When I first looked at this pack of Designer Series Paper, I immediately decided that I liked one side of each sheet better than the other.  The more colorful sides of the papers just jumped out at me and shouted, "Use me!"  The two sheets that I used for this card are on the flip side of those colorful sheets.  But doesn't the little bit of the Poppy Parade accent color make them look elegant?  There's just a hint of the Poppy Parade in one of the mats in the central motif; then there's Poppy Parade Classic Ink in the stamped "Thank You" from the stamp set, Curly Cute; and finally the bow made with the 1/2" Stitched-Poly Ribbon.  Lovely accents if I do say so myself!

This layout is based on a challenge sketch from the demonstrators over at the Stamping 411 Blog.  I don't always feel it necessary to follow sketch ideas precisely; but the latest sketches from  Stamping 411 have been such great inspirations that I've used them pretty much as they have been presented.  And, as always, I had a lot of fun coming up with my own card design.  I hope you'll take advantage of their weekly sketches, too – and I hope you have as much fun with them as I do!

I have been stamping and paper crafting for over 30 years, and have been an Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator for 14 years.

My favorite part of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator is teaching others to enjoy crafting themselves. Not only do I conduct classes in person, I write tutorials for teaching anyone who has internet access. No matter if you're in my area in The Villages in Florida or anywhere else in the world, let me know if there's something you'd like to learn! Read More…

Love the embossing on the dsp.  I can definitely see the shine, but I bet it's truly spectacular in person!!
