Aloha, all!
As you probably know by now, I try on occasion to CASE (Copy And Share with Everyone) projects from the Stampin' Up! Demonstrator's magazine, Stampin' Success. This week, I chose a project that included heat embossing on a Stampin' Up! Foil Sheet. As happens frequently, I didn't care for some of the elements on the project in the magazine. That's not a problem because the articles and samples in the magazine encourage us to try new things, not just to copy their projects exactly.
Hmmm, that card sure got photographed at an odd angle! But there's a reason for that. Not every angle allowed me to take a picture that really showed off the fact that the embossed shape was from a Gold Foil Sheet. And it turned out beautifully, if I say so myself! The stamp that I used for the ornament is Ornament Keepsakes, a stamp set that's not in the Stampin' Up! catalog, but is available for purchase. Then I punched it out using the Holiday Ornaments Framelits Dies (also available for purchase, but not in the catalog). I stamped the ornament on the foil using Versamark ink and Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Emboss Powder.
I also used the Gold Foil sheet to cut out the word, "Merry," from one of the dies in the Expressions Thinlits Dies set. I can't believe I've owned this set for over a month and this is the first time I used it. But I'll be using it again, I'm sure. I applied this to the card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
The card base is one of the Cut and Ready Card Bases in Whisper White. There's actually a layer on the top part of the card. I first cut the bottom of the top layer using one of the Finishing Touches Framelits. Then I embossed the layer with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. Note that it's best to make this layer in that order – first the framelit then the embossing folder because the pressure of the Sizzix Big Shot may flatter your embossing Polka Dots during the cutting process. I discovered this through personal experience! After I got that layer all done to my liking and adhered to the card base, I used Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the ornament to the card. For the topmost and bottommost parts of the ornament, I cut one Stampin' Dimensional in half to make sure that they did not curl up after I'd adhered the ornament to the card.
I really had fun making this card using so many Stampin' Up! products, both new and not-so-new. I hope whatever you try using something new will be as much fun for you as it was for me today! Robin, beautiful card; just lovin' it. Did you cut the oranament with the framelit die before you stamped and rmbossed or stamp/emboss first. Thank you
This is just stunning, Robin! I have never used the foil sheets, either gold or silver, because I couldn't figure out a stunning, yet efficient way to do so. Everything I came up with was a full 5-1/4" x 4" as a background.sheet, with so much waste that I sacked the idea. But this is gorgeous! A keep for next year's ideas, as my cards are all done this year – over 100 of them! TFS!
I stamped and embossed first, and then cut with the framelit. I just cut a piece large enough for the stamping so I wouldn't waste too much of the foil sheet.
