December 12th – Fun With Washi Tape!

December 12, 2014 by Robin

Aloha, all!

For today's project – which is not just any blog post – it's a VC Rocks Blog Hop Post! – I chose the second of my original 2010 layouts that includes four small squares.  But in both the original and in today's project, I featured a striped pattern that I cut into squares and then twisted around a bit to form a larger square with a different pattern entirely.

12

In the original project, I used a striped sheet of Designer Series Paper (DSP).  But I wanted to do something a bit different and chose the All Is Calm Designer Washi Tape.  I thought the All is Calm tape was just perfect for a Christmas Card, especially as I could use a sheet of coordination DSP to finish off the card.

To make the Washi Tape design, I laid out strips of the tape in a pattern on a piece of Whisper White Cardstock.  I made the overall pattern fairly large, intending to use the same Washi Tape design for another project (still to be completed – but it won't be long!)

WashiLayout

Yes, this uses a lot of Washi Tape.  But as I have yet to use up all of the other Washi Tape I have in m stash, I truly wasn't worried that I'd run out.  There's lots of stuff on that roll!

I wanted the Washi Tape squares to be 1-1/4".  So I began by cutting two 1-1/4" strips horizontally across the taped cardstock.  Then I cut 4 squares all of which had basically the same pattern of Washi Tape on them.  I turned each of them so that the result was a formation of a diagonal square pattern around the middle.  I mounted these all on a square of Lost Lagoon Cardstock, matted with squares of Pear Pizzazz and Whisper White Cardstock.  Then I laid this all out on a square of All Is Calm Specialty Designer Series Paper that included the Lost Lagoon and Pear Pizzazz colors in it.

Not wanting to detract from the pattern formed by the Washi Tape squares, I punched a simple 7/8" Scalloped Circle to place over the point at which the squares meet and then added a Rhinestone Basic Jewel in the center of that.

The card base is Pear Pizzazz Cardstock, and the one full layer is Whisper White Cardstock.  I mounted the designed square at the top of this layer and added the "Season's Greetings" image, stamped in Lost Lagoon Classic Ink.  Finally I tied my card all together with a bow made of Pear Pizzazz 1/4" Cotton Ribbon.  I love ribbon (in case you hadn't noticed!).

Here are the products I've featured in this card.  Click on any of the pictures to read more about each product – and you can even purchase the product while you're there on my Stampin' Up! website!

My favorite part of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator is teaching others to enjoy crafting themselves. Not only do I conduct classes in person, I write tutorials for teaching anyone who has internet access. Love what you did with the washi tape! I haven't gotten into the washi tape craze yet, but may have to CASE this card to test the waters. Thanks for participating in our first holiday blog hop for VC Rocks!
