Aloha, all!
I'm so excited to once again be a part of the Color Fusers monthly Blog Hop! This month we were given four Stampin' Up! colors from which to choose at least three to make our project for the hop. A big, "Yay!" for me as I not only used all four of the colors, but I also made TWO PROJECTS for the hop.
For the last week or so, I have had my eye on the Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper set. So my first stop when I saw these colors was that paper to see if it featured any kind of combination of these colors. Rats. While two of the colors (Peekaboo Peach and Watermelon Wonder) were in there, the greens were definitely not either of the greens in our color challenge. While I was pouting about this and trying to figure out how to use the single-color papers as a basis for my project, it suddenly occurred to me that I had bought the Fresh Fruit Stamp Set. I could make my OWN designer paper by stamping those fun fruit images using the challenge colors!
And there they are in the background "designer paper" that I stamped for this project: Watermelon Wonder Strawberries; Peekaboo Peaches; and Mint Macaron Pears highlighted with Wild Wasabi outlines. As I studied the sentiments in the Fresh Fruit Stamp Set, I found the sentiment which was perfect to make a card for a dear friend who is going through a tough time. Once I chose that sentiment, the rest of the card just made itself. I love that I had that beautiful Peekaboo Peach 3/8" Ruched Ribbon and the 2016-2018 In Color Enamel Shapes hearts to add some fun accents to the card to make it as upbeat as I wanted.
When I decided to stamp my own background paper, I actually stamped two sheets of Whisper White Cardstock. I wasn't sure how I wanted to feature the colors and shapes, so both sheets were different. Once I ended up choosing this background for my card, I still had a lovely sheet that might not get used. Then I remembered a project that had been submitted to my SUO Challenges last time, and went looking for it. It was made by Mary Alice Bellis, a fellow Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, and involved making triangles using the Stitched Shapes Framelits.
To make this card, I used Mary Alice's basic instructions, but it still wound up being a trial-and-error effort (i.e., glue stuff on and pull it back off – a lot!) for me as it was for her. Now that I've got it figured out, I may try writing a tutorial. Not for this month's newsletter, though! I may wait for some new Designer Series Papers from the next Stampin' Up! catalog.
Basically what I did was to cut four squares out of the piece of stamped cardstock. Then I cut each square on the diagonal using a larger square framelit. As I said, trial and error, so there are some pieces in there that aren't exactly what I had planned. Nonetheless, I think that the card turned out all right – I even used the "Happy Birthday" sentiment for it as I have a birthday card to send out this week.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I used stamps and my own selection of colors to make my own designer paper. I really should do that more often! Now onto the list of other stampers in this Blog Hop! I won't be hopping with the group for the next few months as I'll be traveling and working on some fiscal year-end projects for a non-profit for which I volunteer. But I'll be back hopping in the summer!

Awesome use of the stitched framelits!
You know, we forget about stamping our own background, but it's so great! Love the stitched framelit triangles too. It looks a bit tricky. Good job!
Love that tip.. just make your own DSP with your preferred colors! Great projects!! 🙂
Loved your card, how did you get the stitching around your triangles?
Both of your card are gorgeous Robin. Love the quilted look and the and the fruity layers on both cards.
Great cards. I'm so impressed with the stitched "quilt" card. Love it!
Thanks, Melissa!
Thanks, Debbie!
Hi, Wendy! I die-cut small squares using the Stitched Shapes Framelits. Then I cut each in half on the diagonal, and used a larger Stitched Shapes square to cut the stitching into the diagonal edge. I plan to write a tutorial before too long!
Thanks, Patty! I think I got that idea from you!!
Thanks, Jo Anne! The stitched framelits part was a bit tricky at first. But I think I have it figured out now. We’ll see when I start to write a tutorial.
Thanks, Paola!
