Aloha, all!
I cannot believe that the last time I actually constructed a blog post here was before the current Stampin' Up! catalog was released! Oh, my, how much has changed! The good news for my few challenge entry posts was that I had been able to buy some products ahead of time so that I wasn't completely out of touch during my May and June travels. But now I'm back and have tons of new stuff to play with!
As most of you know, the best way to get lots of projects done in a short period of time is to CASE (Copy And Share with Everyone) projects that others have done. But, since I've been so out of touch, I really haven't had much of a chance to see a lot of new projects. So my go-to source for CASEing is, of course, the new Stampin' Up! Catalog! So my blog posts for the next couple of weeks will be CASEs from the Catty!
For my first project, I definitely had to go for a birthday card as I needed a card for today. That's cutting it pretty close, huh?
While CASEing in many cases resutls in a project that looks a like like the original, this particular card is based on the cake slice on page 14 of the annual catalog. The stamp set that's featured is the new Birthday Banners Stamp Set, along with the coordinating Bunch of Banners Framelits. I paid attention to the side note on page 14, "Want a taller candle? Just stamp multiple times." So that's what I did! My candles are made up of 3 stamped images of the small striped candle in the stamp set. It's going to take some practice to get the candle to look like one long candle. But I'll get there eventually now that I have that idea in my head!
I also paid attention to another Stampin' Up! hint (can't remember when or where) that Photopolymer Stamps are just made to be bent. So bend the Happy Birthday stamp I did! I placed the stamp on one of my acrylic blocks and bent it just a bit to see if it would work. I then took the framelit and placed it over the bent stamp and adjusted the angle of the stamp just a bit. Finally I stamped the greeting, then the banner stamp (in Calypso Coral and Smoky Slate, respectively) and cut it with the framelit. Nice!
The background paper is one of the designs from the A Little Foxy Designer Series Paper Stack. The DSP colors are Calypso Coral, Smoky Slate and Pool Party. I just used the first two colors for the card's featured elements.
One thing that hasn't changed as I've been out of commission for so long is that I love to tie my projects together with some ribbon or twine. This time, I used the Calypso Coral and Whisper White Thick Baker's Twine together to wrap the layers and tie a bow. I got the idea to use two of the colors from the project on page 24 of the catalog.
So a fun, candle-lit Happy Birthday to our friend, Charlie! And here's hoping that you have many, many more!
