Aloha, all!
We have survived a week away from our home, and are trying to figure out how to live our lives in a temporary home. Some things we’re just not ready to do. So far I – a fairly good cook – have yet to make a meal. OK, I made some PB&J sandwiches for my husband last Sunday when he traveled out to the lava area to try to get into our house. But that’s the extent of it.
For this blog post, though, your question might be, “What is she doing about crafting?” Doing – nothing. Planning – in full swing! But what I have to plan to do has to involve buying whatever I’m going to use, at least for now. All of my Stampin’ Up! and other crafting supplies are back at the house, and they weren’t any priority for me when my husband spent 20 minutes at the house last Sunday to retrieve important papers and some clothes.
So this is what I’m planning, as I desperately need to do some card-making. First of all, where we’re now staying and where we will live when the dust (literally) settles, are much smaller places than our Leilani Estates home. So, instead of having a “Craft Room,” I’m going to be having a “Craft Table.” (No, I’m not renaming my business!). So I need to start with products that work well in small spots. For one thing, a Sizzix Big Shot and all the paraphernalia that goes with it are out of the question. Maybe down the road, but not right now. Stamp Pads are also questionable, though the new Stampin’ Up! stamp pads do stack very nicely. Oh, and all those dozens of stamp sets I used to have? Not any more. I’ll have a handful, and that will be it.
The bottom line for now is that I’m going to need to make cards that are very simple and don’t require too much in the way of tools. By tomorrow I should have what I need. I’ve ordered one stamp set, which is one that will serve me well in this time when I have lots of thank you and thinking of you notes to write. The stamp set is Lemon Zest. And, because I no longer have all my acrylic blocks, I ordered it wood-mounted. Did I recently brag that I no longer had any wood-mounted stamp sets? I should know better than to brag.
It’s perfect for my situation and that of many of my friends. Not only that, I followed one of my own suggestions, and didn’t wait until next month to buy it BECAUSE this year it’s in a bundle, including a punch that includes the lemon and two leaves.
So, by buying it before June 1st, I got a 10% discount. Come June 1st, the bundle is history.
Tomorrow the supplies that I ordered should be delivered to my temporary location, and I hope to have some crafting time this weekend when we won’t be on the phone or computer trying to get a lot of business done. Once that’s done, I’ll be back here and I’ll show off what I’ve done!

I’m so glad you’re safe…even with only a five minute warning to leave! I can’t help thinking that you must miss your beautiful house and garden and your gorgeous craft room. Look forward – good things are coming.
Glad you are safe. My prayers to you and your family, and those having to face hardship.
Just popped over from The Card Concept Robin – what a frightening situation you were in but so glad you got out safely. Hope your home remains intact and at the risk of sounding flippant, you certanly have the perfect excuse to stock up on supplies! All the very best to you and your family!
Just seen the post at Card Concept – I cant’ begin to imagine what it must be like for you all. I watch the news and see the footage. Nature is amazing and terrifying all at the same time. I am glad to read that you and your family are safe and that your husband has been able to retrieve important papers and some clothes. Sending best wishes. I do hope the eruptions come to an end soon.
Thanks, Deborah.
Thanks, Claire. As soon as I have room to craft again, I’ll be buying lots of new stuff!
Thanks, Cami.
We do miss it, Renee. Thanks for your thoughts
