A Sketch Challenge Two-fer!

April 17, 2014 by Robin

Aloha, all!

Today is Friday and, as you might expect, it's time for the Sketch Frenzy Friday challenge!  And, oh, did I love this week's challenge.  All sketch challenges are good, but I looked at this one and thought, "I wish I'd come up with that one!"  Actually, I just about copied the sketch exactly as it was posted; I just didn't use the colors in the sketch!

Challenge

I've been pretty, well, sloppy this week as I've been trying to get my Easter cards done.  So I had not put away my embossing folder collections, and they saw this sketch, too, and cried, "Me, Me!"  What fun just to use colored cardstock and emboss them rather than stamp or make mats, or (yikes!) both.

Sketch     Before I go any further, I should share the sketch with you.  As you can see, my flower image, punched with the Stampin' Up! Blossom Punch, is a bit larger relative to the circle, which I punched with the 2-1/2" Circle Punch.  I also made my vertical rectangle image a bit wider.  The sketch also doesn't call for an additional layer on the card front.  But I chose my colors based on a Designer Series Paper (DSP) set – Watercolor Wonder – and so I wanted to use some of that paper to show off the colors.  Just a few minor adjustments.

I chose three of the colors from the DSP sheet that I used – Gumball Green, Daffodil Delight, and Tangerine Tango.  For the Gumball Green strip, I used the Flower Garden Embossing Folder; for the Daffodil Delight Flower I used the Stripes Embossing Folder, and for the Tangerine Tango Circle I used the Chevron Embossing Folder.

One of the reasons I picked the DSP sheet that I did was that I felt that I could easily stamp directly onto it and the sentiment would show through – and the sentiment from the Sassy Salutations Stamp Set showed up quite nicely!  For my final touch, I added an Island Indigo Button from the Regals Designer Buttons Collection and tied it with some Island Indigo Baker's Twine.

Now about that "Two-fer."  You know that I was still working on Easter Cards, and I really did want to use this sketch for an Easter card – and I did!  But, of both cards that I made, I liked the Get Well Card best.  Nonetheless, here's the Easter Card that I also made with this sketch.

Easter Challenge

There's more stamping in this card – I stamped a flower from the Mixed Bunch Stamp Set, using the same Gumball Green Classic Ink that I used for the sentiment from the Delightful Dozen Stamp Set. I die cut the egg shapes using the egg from the Backyard Basics Framelits Set.  It really does look more like an egg than any of the ovals punches!  The button is a Pumpkin Pie button from the Brights Designer Buttons Collection.  Not quite Tangerine Tango, but I think it works fine.  I tied it with Whisper White Baker's Twine and wrapped some Daffodil Delight 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon around the punched circle.

So that's my two-fer!  And, as you might imagine, I used twice as many products with twice as many cards!  If you have any questions about any of them, just click on a picture – or leave a comment – and I'll get back to  you with an answer!
