A Punchy Valentine!

February 10, 2014 by Robin

Aloha, all!

Hooray, it's Valentine's Day Week!!!  I just love making Valentines, and I end up making more than I can possibly share here on my blog with you.  But this week I'll be sharing some of them with you, starting with today's card which features a bunch of punches!

PunchesChallenge

Of course this is the day for the biweekly SU! Only Challenges blog post, and this goes oh so well with this week's challenge theme which features Stampin' Up!'s punches!

There were a few things that I wanted to do as I was designing this card besides just featuring some punches.  First I wanted to use some stamps that I've not used before!  We're getting close to the time when Stampin' Up! publishes a new catalog and, along with that, retires some stamp sets.  It really bugs me when I find out that there's a stamp set that I own that's going to retire and I haven't even used all the stamps yet!  I may be lucky and these sets will stick around for another catalog, but no sense taking chances!

  • For this I picked the Valentine stamps from the two stamp sets, Tags 4 You (carried over from the Holiday Catalog, item #131820) and Delightful Dozen.(item #128547)

I also wanted to start using some of the Occasions Catalog Designer Series Papers that I've not yet used.  For sure the Occasions Catalog will expire on June 1st of this year, and those papers will not be staying around.

  • I chose one of the sheets from the Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack (iem #132996).  What a deal with 4 sheets each of 12 double-sides designs, and sized to use for just about any kind of card!

And then there are those four punches!  I made a try at grouping them all together and I think it ended up working out to be a fun grouping!

  • The brand new Scalloped Tag Topper Punch (item #133324).  I cut a piece of Whisper White Cardstock 2" by 4-1/4" and punched both short ends with this new punch.  This is a fun way to guide ribbons across a card front!  I used Real Red 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon along with the White Baker's Twine to tie this fun element down.
  • The Bracket Label Punch (item #132153) for which the "Happy Heart Day" stamp was designed.
  • The Decorative Label Punch (item #120907).  The "Be My Valentine" punch was made to go with this punch, but I think it goes with it very nicely!
  • The Modern Label Punch (item #119849).  This punch has been around for awhile, but I like to use it and thought it might make a nice addition to this grouping with some Whisper White Candy Dots.

This is the favorite of all the cards I've made this Valentine season, and, as my favorite, it will be the Valentine that I'll give my husband!  He and I are actually going to planning a very nice Valentine gift for both of us as our three youngest grandchildren (and their parents) will be visiting and arriving Valentine's Day!  It will be a busy 10 days for sure.  But it will be even more fun than I have making and writing about my Stampin' Up! projects!
