Aloha, all!
When I was first a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, I just loved to look through the Stampin' Up! catalogs at all the lovely projects. It simply never occurred to me actually to copy them! Well, for one thing, I often didn't have the stamp sets or colors or embellishments they used. So, while I did learn a lot by looking at the catalog, I missed some great opportunities for practicing what they were showing off.
No more! OK, I may still not have the stamp set or the embellishments or whatever. But now I have learned how to copy them using my own favorite colors or the stamps/embellishments that are actually on my craft room shelf. Here is a card in the NEW STAMPIN' UP! CATALOG (page 112) that I decided to try to copy because of the cute way that the sentiments were arranged:
I'm actually not sure why this caught my attention because the Crushed Curry card base is definitely not my favorite (love Crushed Curry, but as an accent – too much here for my taste!). I also didn't have the stamp set that this artist used, and I really do like 5-1/2" h x 4-1/4" w cards, if only for the ease of using pre-made envelopes.
But the fun pennant and orientation of the ribbon were just different enough that I wanted to try it out. So try it out I did!
To begin, I tried to use as many new Stampin' Up! products as I could! I started with the Strawberry Slush Card Stock card base. That is definitely a great new color, and it goes well with the Pistachio Pudding and Crisp Cantaloupe card stock that I used for the sentiment banners. I used that color to stamp on the Cantaloupe strip, Cantaloupe to stamp on the Naturals White Card Stock strip, and Gumball Green to stamp on the Pistachio strip.
The sentiments are all from the new Hostess Stamp Set, Express Yourself. I thought this was a nice group of sentiments for a Get Well Card! For the pennant, I used the Petite Pennants Builder Punch to punch out a piece of the In Color Designer Series Paper Stack. For these stacks, there are all new designs this year (not to mention the new color families!). Love the new polka dot design! I attached it to a toothpick and tied it up with the Gumball Green 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon. The ribbon passes through a slit that I cut in the card fold, so a strip of ribbon shows inside the card as well as outside the card. A nice effect!
The stamped design over on the right is one of the smallest stamps in the Delicate Doilies Stamp Set. The original Stampin' Up! card also used a stamp from this set, but it was one of the larger stamps. Very versatile set! I stamped the image using Versamark watercolor ink. I actually tried it using the Strawberry Slush stamp pad, but the Versamark looks much softer.
This is my favorite time of the year when there are so many new Stampin' Up! products to try out. I'm having so much fun with it, and I've barely even touched on the new embellishments and Designer Series Papers! I'll be doing that soon, so please stop by to see what I've been up to. I hope you'll have fun getting some ideas for using your OWN new products. Thanks to all of you who have placed online orders for new products. If you haven't done this yet, all you have to do is go to my Stampin' Up! store. Click here for my Stampin' Up! web page, and then click the "Shop Now" button at the upper right! If youi have any questions about this, please send me an e-mail and I'll get right back to you.
Robin, I like yours much better! I think your colors are much more
harmonious. I agree about the Crushed Curry, too much is not a
good thing.
