Aloha, all!
With all that went on in my life after the volcanic eruption last year and dealing with all the moving and getting settled, I have found that there are at least a dozen stamp sets in my collection that I’ve never used! Unfortunately, several of those retired earlier this month, and I’m just not going to take the time to use them now, because most of them did NOT retire! So I have set a challenge for myself until I have used each and every one of those sets: After I use a new stamp set or one that I’ve used before, I absolutely must make at least one card using an older set that’s never been used.
Today’s card is my first of the challenge cards.
I cannot believe I’d never used the Varied Vases Stamp Set OR the Vases Builder Punch that was bundled with it last year. I fell in love with that stamp set and punch bundle the minute I saw it. I was so glad when a sister Stampin’ Up! demonstrator – Susan Horr – gifted me with the bundle last fall when I finally had a place to make cards. I just knew it would be one of the first sets I’d use. But life had other plans for how I would be spending my time much of this past yeare, and I hadn’t touched it – until today! Yay!
Even though I was supposed to use an unused stamp set, I had put no such constraints on myself when it came to papers or colors. I just had my full set of Woven Threads Designer Series Paper (DSP) delivered to my door, and I was champing at the bit to start using it. So that paper, along with the coordinating colors, w Cere what I gave myself to work with.
I know you can’t see this, but the vases that I punched out of one of the pieces of paper from the DSP set are actually glued on top of vases that I stamped on Whisper White Cardstock and then punched out. Oh, the vases looked OK. But that border of white cardstock just did not go with the rest of the muted colors in this card. Hey, it’s that easy to “fix” something! If you don’t like it, glue something else over it!
The color I featured in this card is Terracotta Tile, one of the newest Stampin’ Up! In Colors. I like terracotta pots and vases, so why not. Then I went for the rest of the colors in the new – Rococo Rose (the right flowers); Purple Posy (middle); and Seaside Spray (left). Stampin’ Up! has not yet released a Purple Posy Stamp Set, so I used my Purple Post Light Stampin’ Blends Marker to color that middle flower. I could have used the regular Stampin’ Write Marker, but I wanted the same muted look as the other colors, and I thought the Blends Marker would do it better.
I stamped the sentiment (also from the Varied Vases Stamp Set) and the flower stems using Crumb Cake Ink. Then I added a bit of one of the newest ribbons in the Stampin’ Up! collection, the Terracotta Tile 1/2″ Scalloped Linen Ribbon.
Tomorrow I get to play with a new stamp set! Hooray, and I’m going to love it I know! But then it will be back to an older set I’ve never used. Because one of my customers recently bought the set and I’d like to send her a Thank You card, I’m going to pull out the Love You to Pieces stamp set and dies! Promise.
I hope you have as much fun stamping this week as I plan to have!
